What do you think of this name?

I love it. Dolly for a short. It’s sweet for when they are little bit still a grown up name for an adult.

But I’d say it’s not going to win everyone over because I don’t know any. But then if you want a non mainstream name, you will likely
meet people who dont like it.

JollyJellyCat · 16/09/2023 16:41

It was 177 in popularity last year in the ONS stats and I'd say it's on its way up. Dark Greener site shows it rising year on year lately.

Very cute name and Dottie feels like a more contemporary nickname

Cornettoninja · 16/09/2023 16:43

I love it. It’s very much an old lady name to me but it’s also a really pretty name that deserves more outings than it gets.

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 16/09/2023 16:48

Really dislike it, but then I’m not a fan of vintage names generally. I think Dotty is awful too.

MissingMoominMamma · 16/09/2023 16:52

It was my grandmother’s name, so I’m biased; I love it.

DustyLee123 · 16/09/2023 16:53

I went to school with a Dotty, it’s lovely,

WonkyDesk · 16/09/2023 16:54

I'm not so sure. I've only known one Dorothy who lived on our road (born in the 20s) and I do like the name. Then I think of Wizard of Oz. It's not offensive to me. I would not think, oh that's awful.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 16/09/2023 16:54

Beautiful name with many diminutives

Dillane · 16/09/2023 16:55

Beautiful name

NotABeliever · 16/09/2023 16:57

I love it. I also love Dorothea.

EstieGreenwood · 16/09/2023 16:58

I’m from Kansas and the Wizard of Oz references would drive me wild, but not such a problem here!

KirstenBlest · 16/09/2023 16:59

Love it. Dot, Dottie, Dolly are all nice. I don't like Dorothea

Gingerkittykat · 16/09/2023 17:06

My favourite person in the world is a 94-year-old Dorothy so I love the name. I hate Dolly, Dot and Dotty as nick names though.

MariePaperRoses · 16/09/2023 17:18

Lovely name. Also the name of one of my favourite actresses, Dorothy Lamour.

Mummysaf · 16/09/2023 17:22

My daughter is called Dorothy
we call her Dotty xx

RuthW · 16/09/2023 17:30

Lovely. Getting quite popular now.

I love it, but I would say that!

Oneearringlost · 16/09/2023 17:41

Dorothy, it has sweetness AND gravitas...

Dolly for short, beautiful. Ahh, you've made me want to start thinking about names all over again. I wish I'd thought of Dorothy. Go for it and never look back.

anormalperson · 16/09/2023 18:18

Love it. And Dot for a toddler is adorable

LovelyBoy2023 · 16/09/2023 18:19

I like it - and Dorothea. Also Dottie (but not Dolly)

DramaAlpaca · 16/09/2023 18:25

Love it! With either Dolly or Dottie as a diminutive.

Don't like Dorothea though.

DontGiveMeThatOldCrap · 16/09/2023 18:26

It's too old-lady. I know that some old-fashioned names have made a comeback, but some are not right

continentallentil · 16/09/2023 19:00

I like Dorothea much better but it’s nice enough.

Dorey, Dorrie, Dot and Dora are all nice short forms

stickygotstuck · 16/09/2023 19:05

Very nice name. Coincidentally, I met a lovely 5 year old Dottie yesterday. Suited her.

I don't get this idea that a name can be 'too old'. A name is a name. Some popular names are over 2000 years old and still going strong.
