Twins !!

So I posted before about some of DHs more interesting name choices. We have spoke about it a lot today and made a short list, looking for opinions on the names and help pairing them for our twin girls Wes te expecting.
I feel like I've compromised a lot and DH less so but is what it is. DH also really wants them to match with his older adult daughters name but I'm less fussed and think this will be hard to do, but her name is China.

So far we have

Scarlett
Sienna
Saskia
Adelaide
Florence
Clementine
Carissa
Cassie

My favourite pair is Adelaide and Florence but sort of hate that they are both place names along with China.

DH likes Sienna and Saskia best.

Favourite set or any names we might also like?

Francesca (Frankie) might suit your DP's taste too and work as a middle ground.

I'm not keel on Florence, I know quite a few and I'm really not keen on 'Flo'

I love Scarlet and Saskia.

Adelaide is very cute too and also works well for when older.

I quite like Francesca and Adelaide. Both elegant, strong longer names, that can have cutsie nn's.

He doesn't like Francesca as it is the name of his older DDs best friend!

Just re-read your list.

Cassandra with Cassie for short is lovely too!

neverenoughwine · 09/09/2023 19:50

Haha, that's fair enough.

I'm just thinking of people who I've known with 'Place' names that were really lovely people and they were

Eden and Savannah

Perhaps Adelaide and Savannah

Or Sienna and Eden?

EmmaOvary · 09/09/2023 19:51

Cassie and Clementine is cute

SallyWD · 09/09/2023 19:58

I like Florence and Saskia. I don't like Adelaide at all

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/09/2023 07:17

Clementine and Florence

WaltzingWaters · 10/09/2023 07:22

Scarlett
Sienna
Saskia
Adelaide
Florence
Clementine
Carissa
Cassie

I love Cassandra/Cassie and Carissa (not sure if too similar for twins, but I like the sound of them together).
Sienna and Scarlett too. I’m not so keen on the other names personally.

Sleepnplay · 10/09/2023 07:29

My favourite 2 from your shortlist are Cassie and Saskia, but I don't think they go well together - too many s sounds.

Florence would be my 3rd pick. I'm also not keen on 'Flo' but like 'Florrie'.

So I'd probably choose Saskia and Florence (and you both get one of your top 2 choices that way), or Cassie and Florence.

18baldingstar · 10/09/2023 08:53

Could Adeline (or similar spelling) work as an alternative to Adelaide?

Maireas · 10/09/2023 08:57

They're all nice names, fairly mainstream, but not over used. Give them names with different initials, though. They're going to be independent people! Adelaide and Clementine are lovely.

mosiacmaker · 10/09/2023 09:00

I like all the names! I do think Sienna and Saskia are SUPER cute together so tend to agree with your DP haha. I like the name Florence but genuinely every baby I know lately has been named it - feel like it’ll be #1 soon if that’s an issue for you.

continentallentil · 10/09/2023 09:58

How about Cassia (Cassie) and Saskia?

I like Saskia but Sienna is Hello Mag naff

Did you not have Sophia on your original list??

If you did I’d go for Saskia and Sophia as a compromise. I don’t think it’s good for you both long term if he gets his own way more than you. Serena, Sabrina, Selina, Sanchia are other similar ones.

failing that Adelaide and Florence are fine - and they are so popular I don’t think people will automatically make the place names connection

Clementine is OK

Scarlett has had it’s day, like Sienna it’s no longer original, just a bit naff

Sofasurfer23 · 10/09/2023 10:02

Not a twin but sisters with same initials…made post a nightmare at times as it’s always shortened the first initial. I would avoid kids names starting with the same letter. Esp as twins in the same schools, same exams etc. more ways things can get mixed up

MerryChristmasToYou · 10/09/2023 11:12

Give them different names but with a similar vibe.
Not Milly and Molly or Sienna and Saskia, because they're too matchy-matchy and twee.
They will be individuals, and they'll be sharing a lot of things.

Whichwhatnow · 10/09/2023 11:24

Adelaide is one of my favourite names. Shame he doesn't like Francesca but I do also really like Florence. Cassie is sweet too. I'm not sure if Adelaide and Florence are too matchy with his older DD as they're all place names? But that's my favourite pair!

The only one I don't like at all on your list is Clementine - I have a friend with this name and it's always shortened to either Clem or Clemmy... Which honestly I just don't find nice sounds (and make me think a bit of Phlegm, Phlegmy and Clammy). Sorry!

Theoldwoman · 10/09/2023 13:25

Saskia and Clementine.

Suggestions:

Zara
Estelle
Celeste
Cleo
Sabrina
Freya
Lucille
Nina
Yvette

Sienna and Florence

Phos · 10/09/2023 13:27

I agree with this, I'd avoid the same initials. Post, exam entrances, schools, NHS/medical letters are all sent as "S. Jones" for example, and often the unique identifier is the DOB but in this case you'll have the same DOB too. It really is going to cause issues further down the line.

Mumsanetta · 10/09/2023 13:32

I really like Saskia, Cassandra and Sophia in any two combos but agree that twins should ideally not have matching names. They will be two individual people.

mosiacmaker · 10/09/2023 13:41

I don’t really understand the post issue, all my post from banks etc usually uses full name. Additionally how long are they realistically going to be living with you and receiving important post? Ages 16-18? So two years, maybe one letter a year that uses initials instead of full name… not really a reason to not use a name you like in my opinion.

MerryChristmasToYou · 10/09/2023 13:52

@mosiacmaker , several posters have mentioned it, and we do so for a reason. When you only get a few things through the post, you do not want someone else to open it thinking it was for them.

peaceinourtime · 10/09/2023 17:10

Adelaide and Florence

PrimarilyParented · 10/09/2023 22:38

Adelaide and Saskia (Ade and Sassy for short)
or
Adelaide and Scarlett

Carissa will be constantly confused with Clarissa and Larissa and one of those names your child will have to spell for everyone, so I would avoid it.

Florence, I also dislike ‘flo’, which aside from the menstrual association just generally seems an insipid kind of name.

sienna/clementine are both ok too, though the shortenings of Clementine aren’t great (as pp have said).

Cassie is ok

as well as the geographical theme I would consider avoiding having 2 children with the same initial. China alliterates with Cassie, Carissa and Clementine so I’d avoid those if possible so that one child isn’t left out on the alliterative name front. It’s that or all 3 begin with C.
