Female version of Adam?

We want to honour my BIL who’s no longer with us but struggling to think of how to use Adam as a girls (middle) name. I liked Ada but the family preference is to include Adam in its entirety. So far the only suggestions have been Adamina (hard no from me), Adama or Adamay.

Any thoughts or other suggestions please?

I’d give her Adam as a middle name.

I mean this is obvious - and it’s v nice

There's no good option, I'd abandon the idea as sweet as it is.

I have a solution for you @KM81 . 200+ Welsh Baby Names for Girls and Boys | Mumsnet, says that
"Adda - the Welsh version of Adam, meaning ‘son of the red earth’ is a "Traditional Welsh baby girl name"

There are 8 girls called Adda on Darkgreener, but no boys. I suspect that it might be a girl's name from a different non-Welsh origin.

Since Adam means son of the earth, how about a name with an 'earth' meaning?
Eartha?
Terra?
Gaia?

Adama is a West African girl's name fwiw, not made up.

NoraLuka · 11/09/2023 21:16

I’ve only ever seen Adama used for boys but it’s def not made up.

Damaris? The meaning is different but the first syllable is similar.

Ada
Adele
Adrienne
Adelaide
Addie

I really like the name Adam but it doesn’t lend itself to being a feminine name or having a feminine version that doesn’t jar.

I would wait until you or another family member has a boy and call him Adam. Although Ada has the first three letters the pronunciation is totally different.

Did he have a middle name you could use/adapt?

We had a similar thing with my sister Hannah who passed away. If I'd have had a girl her middle name would have been Hana or Hannah's middle name Marie.

We had a boy and gave up finding a male alternative. We ended up naming him Nathaniel and only after his birth when writing his name down did I realise it 'han' in the middle which is what I called her.

Sometimes these things have a strange way of working out even when you give up so don't put too much pressure on 😊

Put it backwards - Mada, to rhyme with Ada?

Longdarkcloud · 27/09/2023 17:22

As others have posted feminising Adam results in clunky names.
I know your ILs prefer Adam in its entirety but maybe the best solution is using the same letters rearranged as in Manda or Mandana.
Or just choose a name you like and use Adam as a middle name — parents are using male names such as James for their daughters so you'd get away with it for a middle name if not for a first.
