Due our first DD in a few weeks and really struggling to pick a name.

Which name do you prefer from the below?

We will have a family MN (either Elizabeth or Beatrice) and have quite a long (3 syllable) surname.

Robin
Sophia
Ella
Lily
Frankie (short for Frances)
Willow

Thank you

Robin
Frankie
Willow

ReadySalty · 04/09/2023 00:19

Willow is feminine and pretty.

Most of the others are already too popular imo.

I'm not keen on Robin. Maybe because of the Batman Lego Movie.

Cinai · 04/09/2023 00:22

I like Ella best. Lily is also pretty. I think 2 syllables work best if your surname is long. I’d rather go for Sophie instead of Sophia.

munchmagic · 04/09/2023 00:23

I really like Robin but generally the female version is Robyn, with the male version being Robin.
The only exception I can remember is Robin from How I Met Your Mother.
I like all your name ideas, they're really pretty names that will work at any age.

Enko · 04/09/2023 00:23

Frances Elizabeth is great

@munchmagic

that male '' female 'y'went 'out of date' years ago.
@Adviceneeded9

I like Robin Elizabeth 💕

RoseMartha · 04/09/2023 00:32

Ella
Or
Lily

SandSunWaves · 04/09/2023 00:38

Frankie
Willow
(Lily/ Ella/Sophia)
Robin

continentallentil · 04/09/2023 00:45

Frances Elizabeth
or 2nd choice Robin Beatrice
could tag the other middle name on the end of either if you wanted 3

Rest of them are way overdone - Sophia is lovely, Ella pretty but a bit insubstantial and Lily and Willow somewhat wet (and a bit unfortunate if she turns out solid)

Lois, Esther, Jocelyn, Serena, Cassia, Saskia, Laurel, Jasmine might be others

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 04/09/2023 00:48

Like them all except Willow.

user1492757084 · 04/09/2023 08:20

Sophie Beatrice 10/10
Sophie Elizabeth 10/10
Elizabeth Willow

Whataretheodds · 04/09/2023 08:22

Frances (known as Frankie) Elizabeth is lovely.
2nd choice Robin or Robyn

The others are overdone

Mumofgirls2017 · 04/09/2023 08:30

Willow

LulooLemon · 04/09/2023 08:38

Sophia or Lily

AllAboardTootToot · 04/09/2023 08:40

Frankie
Sophia
Willow

FoodFann · 04/09/2023 08:43

I like Sophia and Willow best

FayCarew · 04/09/2023 11:51

Frances, but I'm not keen on Frankie, then Willow, based mainly on being least overused and not too unisex.

All the names are OK but Sophia and Lily are the nicest BUT they are massively popular and have been for ages.
Robin and Frankie seem more like boys' names to me.
Ella seems a bit nothingy and is also very popular and has been for ages.

munchmagic · 04/09/2023 14:06

@NeedTheSeaside Anyone I know that's used the name in recent years have still very much used the i/y to differentiate male or female (Robin/Robyn) so I'm not sure it's accurate to say it's went out of date.
There's still many people who stick by it.
Having said that of course it's up to the individual and I wouldn't judge anyone for using them the other way around, I would think of it as the wrong spelling but I would keep it to myself rather than telling them.

Theoldwoman · 04/09/2023 14:16

Ella. One hundred percent.

Beautiful, classic and Very pretty.

Sleepnplay · 04/09/2023 14:51

Robin for me, its lovely. I've also only known the Robyn spelling for girls with people I've personally known, so you may get a bit of that. Once you've told people once its not a tricky one to remember though. Robin Elizabeth is gorgeous.

Next choice would be Sophia. It's beautiful but there are just so many if them around, so depends if that bothers you.

OopsieeDaisy · 04/09/2023 19:23

Robin is my favourite and works well with either middle name. I also like Ella and Lily but I think they both only flow well with Beatrice. Frankie is nice but I really don’t like Frances, although Francesca is lovely.

Strange isn't it. I'm 54,I don't know anyone that's been born in my lifetime that has used 'y'. The Robyn's I know are all older than me & the ones since are all
'i'

I guess it's personal preference and weirdly I Love Robin, but really really dislike Robyn. I also say them differently, so maybe it's that.💁🏻‍♀️

PickledScrump · 05/09/2023 17:56

I don’t particularly like Robin, but it’s getting very popular so I’m in the minority. I would go with Robyn for a girl though as that’s the most common spelling and will make life easier for her.

I would say Williow is the most overused on your list. There’s loads in my daughters year (secondary school).

Lily is by far the nicest on your list. Both Lily Elizabeth and Lily Beatrice sound really nice

Marsyas · 05/09/2023 18:03

What is it with all these threads recently about "Robyn" being the "correct" spelling for a girl. It really really isn't. Robin from Stranger Things. Robin Wright Penn. Robin from the Strike books. Robin from Chalet school, going back a bit.
I like Sophia and Robin from your list OP.

daytriptovulcan · 05/09/2023 18:06

Robin is lovely, and most unique.
