I really love this as a nn for a boy but do not want to have this as the official name on the BC.
I do not like Franklin so that is not an option but is Frank too harsh as an official name.

how many make Frank’s do you know who go by Frankie? Is Frankie terribly popular. I do not know one in Lancashire where we are based

Personally I know more Frankies who are female (also NW) here, most of whom are Francescas. That might be because of my age though.

I do know one boy Frankie who is about 7 but I believe he is just Frankie on the birth certificate.

I don’t think Frank would be too harsh on the BC

Francis? Or plenty do just register as Frankie these days (for boys and girls). Personally I dislike Frank, it's very harsh for a baby.

Frankie is fairly popular without being overly so if that makes sense? It's hovering on and around the top 100 I think for both genders, a bit more popular for boys than girls but not much in it. 'ie' short forms are definitely very in, but I wouldn't say Frankie is currently the most commonly used by any stretch.

I know of 2 boys and 1 girl, all just Frankie.

Francis? Isn't that what Frank and Frankie are both short for?

I actually think Frank is quite cool as a full name. I know a little Fred (not Frederick, and has never once been called Freddie) and it suits him so well. To me it's a similar vibe.

Frank Burnside 👍🏻

My daughter's called Frankie, and shes in daycare and has a little friend (boy) called Frankie also. They both just go by Frankie. I think its beautiful, but also quite trendy as Amber Fillerup used it for her third daughter also.
