What's the rule around seasonal names (if there even is one?)

Currently pregnant (not going to find out the sex) and my fave girls name is Autumn, but baby is due in February. Does this matter?

DP loves Summer but again, unsure for the same reason.

Joint favourite is Willow.

I don’t think it matters tbh.

CoopAndWheels · 28/08/2023 15:00

I mean, DS had an April in his class that was born in June, it’s just a name so it’s fine, no matter when her b.day is.

cherryassam · 28/08/2023 15:01

I really don’t think it matters

I like both Autumn and Summer and I think Willow goes nicely with both

Willow Autumn or Willow Summer are lovely

8008less · 28/08/2023 15:03

I personally think it’s a bit odd unless there’s a birth connection. I liked Winter but had a summer baby…

ScottBakula · 28/08/2023 15:03

I don't think it matters , it also be based on when DC is conceived or born .

CaribbeanCupcake · 28/08/2023 15:16

Thank you, you've made me feel better! I had pretty much written them off but as the general consensus is it doesn't matter they are now back in the running 😀

I don’t think it matters. I prefer Autumn over Willow! Its got an unusual but not strange feeling to it!

bearfood · 28/08/2023 15:19

My daughter is called Autumn and her birthday is also in February! Never has anything but compliments about her name and she's in her late twenties now.

KirstenBlest · 28/08/2023 16:20

I'm not keen on season/month names anyway but it's not my baby.
Wouldn't she get asked if she was born around then a lot?

Wavessea · 28/08/2023 17:37

Love seasonal names and no I don’t think it matters

Rosehiptea · 28/08/2023 21:53

We're more than our birthdays! It doesn't matter at all. It probably feels like it matters because the only thing you currently know about your daughter is what season she'll be born in, so calling her after another season seema strange. But with time, what season she's born in will be a topic that only ever comes up once a year.

KirstenBlest · 28/08/2023 22:08

@Rosehiptea , someone I know has a month name as a middle name. Her first name and surname are common ones so the middle name gets used too.
(e.g. Olivia April Smith). Her birthday isn't anywhere near April, but the second of her two older brother's is.

continentallentil · 28/08/2023 23:05

I think it’s slightly odd to call your kid Autumn or Summer if she’s born in Feb, but it’s not like it really matters,

NoodletheSchnoodle · 28/08/2023 23:09

To me personally, I find it odd to use month or season names without any connection to them. But I think that's literally just my opinion as everyone I know or know of with a Summer, Autumn, June, April etc are never born in those seasons or months

JobMatch3000 · 28/08/2023 23:21

I know 3 Carols who were born in late December - as was Noel Edmonds.

Obviously millions of other babies born around this time do not have Christmas themed names.

JanesBlond · 28/08/2023 23:25

I hate seasonal names for this reason. It’s twee if the name matches the season and yet slightly odd if it doesn’t. They aren’t even nice sounding words to make it worthwhile.

SneezyEvie · 29/08/2023 06:45

I know an Autumn born in the Spring.

It’s just a name, like a flower name. You wouldn’t assume a girl named Rose or Violet to have any connection to a flower (or colour for that matter) so why should it different for a season?

Samzzz · 29/08/2023 08:33

I’ve always loved the name Winter for a girl and when we found out we were having a daughter due in January we gave her the name. We wouldn’t have named her Winter if she wasn’t born in Winter x

user1492757084 · 29/08/2023 08:41

The name - Autumn Willow - is gorgeous.

Samzzz · 29/08/2023 09:43

I agree with the above. Autumn Willow is beautiful

KirstenBlest · 29/08/2023 09:46

Autumn Willow sounds like something you'd pick up at a garden centre or a paint colour

Candleabra · 29/08/2023 09:48

I like Autumn as a name. But not for a baby born in February.

Agreed. The combination makes autumn sound like an adjective.
