Ds1 is Herb Osbourne Surname, we’ve decided on Edwin as a middle name but we’ve shunned our previous favourites as they are too feminine sounding. At the moment we have:
Iggy
Ziggy (might be too feminine)
Hayes
Sonny
Sullie
Nash
Huck

i chickened out with Ziggy and went for something more conventional. I worried in case he was a bookish librarian/“
lawyer type and couldn’t pull it off.
As it turns out, he’s a musician/DJ type and floats around festivals in a psychedelic bucket hat. I’m kicking myself 🤣

My parents were torn between calling me Star and my classic 5 in one class boring name!

I turned out to be a metalhead with hippy tendencies and a dh that dresses like 1960s/70s Bob Dylan….

Oh please don't get with Nash. It's becoming popular slang for female privates as a PP said.

@Sunsetred Dh and I were looking at names this evening! We thought the pp was joking as ‘Nash vagina’ comes up with nothing. Dh has done some digging and the word is ‘Nyash’ - it’s been swiftly removed.

Id appreciate if people stopped making jokes about ds’s name, it’s bloody annoying when I genuinely just want help to find a fucking name. Herb is a name the same way Sam is a name. I haven’t called my son Bubbo-bockings Bong Surname. It’s not funny it’s just pissing hormonal as fuck me off.

If anyone is actually not taking the piss dh and I have narrowed it down to three names. It’s so frustrating that we can’t use our girls name Pearl as I find boys names so much harder. Our final names are:

Nestor Edwin
Huck Edwin
Ozzy Edwin (we decided Osias was too much with Herb)

I think Ozzy Edwin is really cute

Nestor is such an interesting name and not one I‘ve heard before - is it pronounced how it looks?

becarefulofyourheart · 29/08/2023 00:32

Clicked to suggest Sonny! Fab name 😊

Also, about predictable gags. DD has a unique name, but it’s not made-up or a creative spelling, it’s just old, in fact she’s the first baby in the UK since 1950 with this name and is also a Google whack. We heard some very crappy patter. I actually find it’s a good way of gauging people’s attitude to difference. DH’s oldest friend said something obvious (and actually, really rude) when we told him what she was going to be called, on the other hand lots of other people including her very traditional grandparents love it and say it suits her personality perfectly. More power to you, I love your choices, and of the last three, Huck, by far.

Sanch1 · 29/08/2023 00:47

You named a child Herb? Sorry I can't get passed that.

Radiodread · 29/08/2023 00:51

ozzy is fine. I don’t know any/ many white Nestors so if you’re white British I’d maybe avoid that.

arf at being named after weed. What a legacy, slightly embarrassing when your parents are 80s and you’re cruising into middle age!

I know you didn’t want a matchy plant name, but imho, Sage is perfect. It isn’t just planty, it also means wise.
Herb and Sage. Fabulous.

JudasPriest · 29/08/2023 03:59

@Radiodread Herb isn’t named after weed, he’s named after two bands Herb (a band
named Herbs) but we normally call him Herbie and Osbourne (Ozzy Osbourne). No cannabis references at all. Herb comes from Herbert which is bloody ancient, before stoners existed.

@toomuchlaundry his legal name is Herb but we tend to call him Herbie. I’m not a male so obviously I wouldn’t want to be called Herb but if I was a man I wouldn’t mind! What is wrong with being called Herb/Herbie, mn is only happy if you call your child Sebastian, Nathaniel or Edward it seems.

the only Ziggys I’ve known of have been male. I have never heard of Ziggy as a female name. I like Huck but unfortunately it rhymes with something else that we all know.

Jackienory · 29/08/2023 05:19

Albert

marshmallowfinder · 29/08/2023 07:13

Clement came to my mind.

FinnRustle · 29/08/2023 07:44

You keep insisting that you didn't name him after weed, but what do you think the reggae band named their band after?
