I know I'm probably going to regret this but... which of these Spanish names for a boy?

I have 2 DDs and they both have Spanish names, so we want DS to have one too. It's almost more important that it can be pronounced right in Spain where they're less used to foreign names. I find that in England most people are used to them and make an effort. So which of these names do you like best or think would be least of a problem in terms of pronunciation, etc.

Pablo
Raul
Teo (pronounced TEH-oh)
Edu
Nico
Ruben
none of them?
any other suggestions?

Please be gentle...

I like Teo, and Edu best.
Never heard of them before, so that's why I like them.
now I want more kids just so i can give them cool names.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2008 09:33

I like Nico and Pablo, easy to pronounce too.

My Spanish friend has Sebastian, Fernando and Emiliano if that is any help

Pablo, Nico and Raul....

Sebastian as mrsr suggested is lovely too

Teo is a gorgeous name, although it runs the risk of being mispronounced as Tee-oh (like Leo)

Ruben lovely too.

I think they are all gorgeous (not much help am I?!)
I was in love with a Spanish boy called Javier once so I really like that

vacaloca · 02/03/2008 19:04

Thank you all for the feedback. So Teo seems the favourite, and yet it must be the most difficult to pronounce... Are you all thinking it rhymes with Leo? Because if it does it will sound like 'Tio' which is uncle in Spanish (like Tia Maria) and that'll probably start annoying me. Oh god this is so difficult. DH still more keen on Pablo. Sebastian is the name one associates with butlers in Spain for some reason! I forgot to add Luca to the list, even though that's really Italian rather than Spanish, but I think it's between Pablo and Teo now. Maybe we should wait until he's born and see if he's face goes with one more than the other!

Pablo - sounds nice, has a sort of authoritative ring to it
Nico - also sounds v nice but sounds like an abbreviated form of something

How about Mateo?

devonsmummy · 02/03/2008 20:16

Loving Teo - not heard it before.

Spanish names tend to be quite samey don't they ?
My mum lives in Spain and my younger brother Mitch has terrible trouble with his name being mispronounced so sensible to go with a Spanish name me thinks.

fishie · 02/03/2008 20:22

vacaloca all your names are lovely. i think you might get the tio thing at first, but as you say there are plenty of names which don't have english pronunciations and everyone manages fine, so most people don't pronounce raul to rhyme with paul. there are also lots of accents which can't pronounce a th so theo is teo anyway.

fernando is also a great name.

I love the name Raoul (sp?). Sounds great with an accent too!
also ruben and luca.
not sure about teo, just beacuse, as you say, it would be pronounced tio over here..

pootleflump · 02/03/2008 20:25

Only like Teo.

vacaloca - Inigo? Lovely name, lovely associations. Fairly common in Spain, I've heard.

Tickle · 02/03/2008 20:26

We have a Theo, and it is pronounced Teh-o here (in Denmark). Love it

dizzydixies · 02/03/2008 20:28

Teo and Ruben for me too
Luca and Nico also like

snotbuster · 02/03/2008 20:28

I like Pablo or Nico out of your list. I have a Manu!

vacaloca · 02/03/2008 20:39

Oh Manu! I love Manu. I'm pretty sure it was one of the options when expecting one of the DDs and I'd forgotten about it. It's from Manuel, I guess (which I don't like so much) but Manu reminds me of Manu Chao and I love him.

Inigo would need an "ñ" which would be a bit of a nightmare over here
