I know I'm probably going to regret this but... which of these Spanish names for a boy?

I have 2 DDs and they both have Spanish names, so we want DS to have one too. It's almost more important that it can be pronounced right in Spain where they're less used to foreign names. I find that in England most people are used to them and make an effort. So which of these names do you like best or think would be least of a problem in terms of pronunciation, etc.

Pablo
Raul
Teo (pronounced TEH-oh)
Edu
Nico
Ruben
none of them?
any other suggestions?

Please be gentle...

I know someone with a Tomas (including an accent I can't work on keyboard...)

macaco · 06/03/2008 13:09

I'm in Spain and thinking of Nico (Nicolás) or Alejandro (Ale). Almost certainly Nico. Luca is Italian, no? in Spanish would be Lucas I think.
Manuel/Manolo/Manu is sooooooooooo common in Spain it's unbelievable so for that reason alone it'd be a no for me.

lokka · 06/03/2008 13:18

I'm in Spain and my ex DP is Teo and current Ruben. I love both names and wanted to call DS Teo but wasn't allowed. Wonder why!

vacaloca · 06/03/2008 15:13

Yes, Luca is definitely italian but I like it much better than Lucas for some reason. Also Duffy Duck is called Pato Lucas in Spain! Lokka - how funny about both your DPs being two of the names.

mom2latinoboys · 06/03/2008 16:53

If I ever have a 3rd ds I think I would do Joaquin.

Cam · 07/03/2008 09:57

Felix is the best Spanish name

LolaTheShowgirl · 07/03/2008 15:26

I love Raul and Reuben...would consider calling my own DS Reuben if I had one!

sugus · 04/04/2008 23:12

Hi there!
I´m spanish and I have to tell you that Teo is Teodoro, Edu is Eduardo, Nico is Nicolás, Luca is italian, Cruz is a girl name and surname as well, and Rico is a surname and it means rich or yummy (like when you eat something tasty).

Some suggestions: Gabriel, Dario, Mateo, Daniel, Juan, José, Alonso, Alfonso, Pelayo, Sebastián, Alejandro or Alex, Gonzalo, Ignacio or Nacho, Luis, Pedro, Santiago, Mario, Alberto, Jorge, Roberto, Manuel, Miguel, Lucas, Enrique, Marcos, César, Victor, Rodrigo (like my son).

:-)

I love Nico.

If it helps at all, my half Spanish nephew is called Oscar -which both sides of the family can pronounce. They also had Bruno on their list - can't remember what else.

Quattrocento · 05/04/2008 00:03

All lovely, esp Teo

logan3 · 05/04/2008 00:15

I like mario or Lucas.......

expatinscotland · 05/04/2008 00:16

I like Luis-Alfredo myself.

LilyMunster · 05/04/2008 00:19

i love all of the names in the OP (havnt read rest of thread) genuinely! i like em all. think they are all v cute and dignified and lovely.

i think my fave is Pablo.

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 10:54

Mateo or Ruben. Both lovely. I also like Bruno and I think it would work in both countries, although it is German.

Alex would be perfect as it's the same whether you use Alejandro or Alexander.
I also like Nicholas/Nicolás

Daniel and Gabriel sound too girly to me. I wouldn't use them if I were in Spain. I might use them if the child were growing up in UK with relatives in Spain.

I also really like the suggestion of Raúl. Is that fashionable in Spain at the moment???

No sé...

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 10:57

Just remembered, I know a half-Irish half-spanish baby who is called Alberto. Albie for short. Albie works everywhere.

cyteen · 05/04/2008 13:08

Raul is my favourite off the original list. Otherwise I love Alejandro (and as MadameC says, it translates well if need be) or Xavier.

Just don't go for the name of a child in my class (which would probably be ok if he was still living in Spain) Jaunco

smallmediumandohmygod · 06/04/2008 10:32

Me gustan Ruben y Raul.

I have a good friend called Raul so I really like it.

I like Miguel and Luis as well.
