Girls name recommendations much appreciated!

I go from loving short punchy names like Tess to longer pretty ones like Helena.

What makes a good name? How the hell does one choose?! Tia

Wait for the baby to pop out. Look at it. See what it looks like. You might think you want a Helena now, but when she arrives she is undoubtedly a Tess. Don't fret, the baby will let you know what suits her.

  1. Write down a list of your favorite names, but don't limit yourself to traditional or popular names. Consider unique names or even names that have personal significance to you or your family.
  1. Think about the meanings of the names on your list. You may find a name with a deeper meaning that resonates with you and your partner.
  1. Consider using the name of a favorite place, book character, or song for inspiration.
  1. Don't rush the naming process. Take your time to find the perfect name that feels right for your child.
  1. Ask family and friends for suggestions, but remember that ultimately the decision is yours and your partner's.
  1. Test out potential names by saying them out loud and imagining them being called in various settings, such as a classroom or playground.
  1. Remember that you can always change your mind. If you're having a hard time deciding, choose a nickname or opt for a gender-neutral name until you find the perfect fit.

Tess and Helena are lovely no need to look further, wait to see what she looks like as PP said and use one as first name the other as middle, sorted

Names that have the same feel as Tess:
Celeste, Jane, Ness, Nessa, Sasha, Reese, Liv, Nia, Nina, Ivy
Names that have the same feel as Helena:
Juliet, Eleanor, Eloise, Marina, Louisa, Elizabeth, Vivienne.

Often when people name their baby they don't feel 100%, sometimes it grows on you so as long as you both like it you don't have to love it but you will love her and her name will become her 🤍

Celeste is so much nicer than Tess.

Good advice i changed my mind every time once my children were born happy with the names I picked. I look back now they are teens and the names I loved before they were born but did not pick I cannot stand.

FayCarew · 22/08/2023 16:25

Helena will probably get shortened. It's nice but long.
I like both, but prefer Tess.

What makes a good name?
One that people can say and spell without difficulty.
One that flows with the surname.
One that isn't too closely associated with a famous or infamous person, real or fictional.
A name you'll still like when trends in names have moved on.
One that doesn't suggest a certain kind of background (e.g. parents fans of gaming/Game of Thrones/Star Wars/EastEnders/Kardashians/Tory Party/...).
