To use both names or save one for later

We're considering a 3 syllable name and a 1 syllable name that we equally love. Since this is our first child together, we don't want to regret using both names if we end up having another daughter in the future, and we don't want to use just the one if we never have another girl. Thus, were torn between using both right away or reserving one for a possible future dd. What would be your suggestion? Should we go for both names now or save one for later? 😂

I think it depends how the names sound together really 🤔

Use both, then give a second girl one of the names as a middle name.

What are the names? Could you middle name one then use it is you have another daughter?

RitzyMcFitzy · 17/08/2023 21:35

Use one of them and save the other in case you have another daughter. Middle names just do not feature in day to day life, so make an old lady's day and make the baby's middle name that of a lovely old granny or great aunt.

One of my naming icks is when people use their first born's middle name as their second born's first names. Gives me 'couldn't be arsed' vibes.

Don't do a double barral name!

I saved one name (my favourite) for later because it didn't suit DC1. Fortunately I got to use it for DC2 and it suits him perfectly. It's a bit of a gamble though.

I'd use one and save one. With DD1 we used both names we loved (first name, middle name) but then had DD2 and wished we'd kept the middle name back.
Personally I'd never use DD1's middle name for another child so we just chose another name. I do love it but still wish we'd been able to use the other one.

Do either of the favoured two names have a male version that you also like?
If so, you could use the other famale name and save one for the next child - boy or girl.

Congrats!! I had this!!!
My girls have two middle names. Just before they each were born, I met a new name that I loved but I stuck. Now I am pregnant with a baby boy, (defo last and I find boys names tricky) so haven't used those names but now they are open for other members of the family's kids or even dogs!!!
But please don't use DC1's middle name for DC2's first name.
