Baby boy name help!

We're a British + Italian couple living in Austria and due a boy in October. We're finding it really hard to find a name we both love and will work in all three countries, ideally that all grandparents and teachers will pronounce the same 😬
Here's our shortlist so far, would love more options and outside input!!

Julian - but neither of us love the Austrian /German Yoolian pronunciation

Caspian - I would choose this in the UK but think it's a bit too weird here

Fabian, Felix - baby’s last name will start with F, not a deal breaker.
Francesco - could be a bit too heavy as was the name of BFs late uncle

Aloisyus, Aloisio - BF likes Aloisyus, I think it's too much of a mouthful! Aloisio might be a good middle name for us

Tristan

Ruben

Lucien

Sebastian

Any suggestions that fit our vibe and awkward criteria? Thanks!

Surprised how popular Tristan seems to be - it's a new contender that we stole from a baby we met at the beach :)

@Whatsthepoint1234 I do love Enzo, especially as nn for Lorenzo
@Dasisr would be perfect, however too close to his dad (Alessandro) - though I think he'd happily use it haha
Thanks @KayEmAy and @Kirsten quite a few of yours are on my long list! :) Roman is really nice but not sure it'd be a popular choice with the Italian side, never thought of Rory as nn for Dorian - cute!

Love Lorenzo and Alessandro!
Like Fabian, Sebastian and Matteo.
Not so keen on the others.

I like that Alessandro is such an international name with a variety of nicknames to suit all three countries!

I don't think Caspian is too out there! That's my favourite too. Second favourite, Felix.

nutmegx · 16/08/2023 11:50

I was set on Fabian, Julian, Florian or Caspian if I had a boy (had girls!) I also considered Rowan, Ellis, Jonty

My DH and I are in a similar position. We're trying to find names that sound OK to speakers of Arabic, English, Hebrew, and Norwegian. At this point we've decided that if it's pronounceable to all our relatives and it isn't a swearword in any of the four languages then it's good enough!

A couple of thoughts on your suggestions:

  1. Of all the names you've listed, I think Sebastian is the most 'portable'. It exists in all three of your countries, but it's not a dime a dozen either.
  2. Francesco could be shorted to Frank in the UK and Austria, if you'd be happy for the baby to have a nickname. That might let you and your BF honour your late relative without it feeling too sombre?

It’s spelt Aloysius in English usually. I like it!

Maybe…
