Thoughts on Wendy?

I don’t think it’s ever been that popular, but really seems to be disappearing now. Feels due for a revival, but is it a bit wet?

Yes, wet.

Gnomegnomegnome · 09/08/2023 08:04

I really love Wendy! I love the Peter Pan connection and every Wendy that I know absolutely is a Wendy Darling.

HollyGolightly4 · 09/08/2023 08:05

It was made up by JM Barrie for Peter Pan :)

I haven't met a lovely Wendy, but I've never taught one!

Busubaba · 09/08/2023 08:11

Windy.

No, don't do it.

Ah, you must have met a whole different bunch of Wendys to the few I have had the misfortune of knowing. 😟

Chevrotains · 09/08/2023 12:34

I like Wendy

Theimpossiblegirl · 09/08/2023 12:35

Short for Gwendolyn so she could go with alternatives as an adult.

I like it.

liveforsummer · 09/08/2023 12:35

Definitely a bit wet and the ones I've known have always (unhappily) been nicknamed windy Wendy

GreenIsTheMagicColour · 09/08/2023 12:36

Wet.

Nubnut · 09/08/2023 12:50

I love it! Due a revival.
For me it would depend a lot on how well it goes with the surname.

he might have made it up, but it existed before as well, it is a short nick name for Gwendolyn. I have a Gwendolyn and she is often called Wendy - it means moonlight

ArcticBells · 09/08/2023 13:14

Not sure what's wet about it.

Same for me! I’m not a huge fan of the name anyway, but it’s definitely been worsened by the ones I’ve met.

1993GoToo · 09/08/2023 13:44

If you are giving birth to a 55 year old who works in HR, fine.

If not - NO

Mummyof287 · 09/08/2023 13:44

Personally definitely no....just sounds like its meant for a 60/70yo lady to me

Berlinlover · 09/08/2023 13:47

Just awful.

And me! I wonder if we've all met the same ones?!

continentallentil · 09/08/2023 17:03

Dripping wet

Short for Gwendoline if you must, then at least she can dump it

Kenworthington · 09/08/2023 17:05

Ah my mums name was Wendy and she was the loveliest person in the world. Still. Wouldn’t call a baby Wendy!

JamSandle · 09/08/2023 17:06

I feel it could easily have a revival.

RadishAndTwiglet · 09/08/2023 17:14

No. It's far too soon. Everyone over 45 will be horrified, feel sorry for her, question your sanity and pull a pained face. No-one wants that for their child.

We have at least another fifteen years before we can be calling babies Wendy, Jason, Tracey, Colin, Elaine, Debbie or Kevin.

Rach247 · 09/08/2023 19:17

@RadishAndTwiglet Interesting, I don’t put it in that category. I see it as a Nancy equivalent.

I really like it! The one I know is great.

PickledScrump · 09/08/2023 19:58

It’s one of those names that should be allowed to die, like Keith

FoodFann · 09/08/2023 20:01

No
