Thoughts on Wendy?

I don’t think it’s ever been that popular, but really seems to be disappearing now. Feels due for a revival, but is it a bit wet?

Awful

Known two one was an in your face bolshy type and the other a shit stirrer.

I've known it used as a euphemism for lady parts

Also the expression Wendied is about someone joining a friendship group and forcing you out.

All negative connotations

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/08/2023 20:39

It's not awful but it seems very dated.

ButterflyBitch · 09/08/2023 20:40

One of my best friends is Wendy. Even she’d agree it’s not a great name. Love her to bits though 😁

dollybird · 09/08/2023 20:44

My DM is a Wendy. She said if I'd named a DD after her, she'd have thought I was crazy! I've known a few Wendy's, all lovely. The youngest one is probably about 40 now.

Womblegreen · 09/08/2023 20:45

Awful, I would never revive it.

HironsBirons · 09/08/2023 20:53

Can I borrow your potato peeler?

Sandysandwich · 09/08/2023 20:54

It's a slightly naff 60s name to me.
I had a bendy wendy doll as a child- she was a knock off version and also a bit naff

HironsBirons · 09/08/2023 20:53

Can I borrow your potato peeler?

Damn, beat me to it!!!

Marylou62 · 09/08/2023 21:25

My best friend is Wendy.. she's absolutely wonderful.. not wet at all...

Rach247 · 09/08/2023 21:37

@HironsBirons @Ornamentalcabbages what’s this about?

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 09/08/2023 21:43

Nope. I know one. She's crafty and whilst pretending to have a social conscience is unkind, damning of other people and generally not very nice. She's in her 80s so was an early Wendy.

UsingChangeofName · 09/08/2023 21:47

I feel it fits into the 55 - 65 age group, with
Susan
Pamela
Angela
Caroline
Karen
Deborah
Alison
Barbara
Gail

type names...... Nothing wrong with them, but not quite yet old enough to be 'due a revival'
Although I suppose you would be ahead of the curve, and she would be likely to be the only one in her class.

blackice · 09/08/2023 21:47

horrendous

faban · 09/08/2023 21:49

I know a baby Wendy. It's a really weird name on a child.. and an adult

AnotherThingToThinkAbout · 09/08/2023 21:49

No

If you are giving birth to a 55 year old who works in HR, fine.

If not - NO

🤣☝️this

Thinkinpinkin · 09/08/2023 21:51

Personally I wouldn't. Sounds like an old gal who works at b&m lol

EmmaPaella · 09/08/2023 21:54

My Gran used to say that it was a doll’s name.

Newgirls · 09/08/2023 21:54

I like it and only know lovely Wendys. I think it’s due a revival too.

BatheInTheLight · 09/08/2023 21:56

Males me think of the American burger chain.

WaltzingWaters · 09/08/2023 21:57

It’s a no from me.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 09/08/2023 22:13

The only Wendy I've ever known was a bully.
I don't like the sound of the name either

Dacadactyl · 09/08/2023 22:19

I don't mind Gwendolyn but Wendy is terrible.

Wrennie24 · 09/08/2023 22:33

Certainly a bit drippy, in the same vein as Alice, Emily, Sally, Louise, Jane - just wet, boring, prissy names.

user1477391263 · 09/08/2023 23:51

Apparently, the origin of the name comes from "Friendy-wendy" which is enough to put me off.
