Thoughts on Wendy?

I don’t think it’s ever been that popular, but really seems to be disappearing now. Feels due for a revival, but is it a bit wet?

I know a Wendy and I reeeeeally can’t stand the name. It’s so unflattering and frumpy.

daffodills1 · 10/08/2023 01:55

Does anyone remember the famous Wendy story on MN and the phrase afterwards was 'you've been wendy-ed?
Before the whole Karen thing happened, on Mumsnet there was a Wendy..

blackpear · 10/08/2023 02:04

I know one wonderful Wendy and one who is one of the worst people on earth.
objectively though I wouldn’t. It’s too easy for unkind classmates to take the piss.

fullbloom87 · 10/08/2023 02:19

No just NO my mother in law is called Wendy so maybe I'm biased.

And me! I wonder if we've all met the same ones?!

Yes, I think I know her too.

Rach247 · 10/08/2023 19:53

WELL. Not a whole lot of love for Wendy, other than a few pleasant individuals. Feedback received…

@RadishAndTwiglet Interesting, I don’t put it in that category. I see it as a Nancy equivalent.

It's far nicer than Nancy! Maybe due for a revival. You'll be ahead of the curve!

JustMaggie · 11/08/2023 20:29

What's wrong with Wendy? Nancy is nice too.

Yes! Maybe about 8 years ago?

peaceinourtime · 14/08/2023 03:26

Wendy is a nice name. I had a favourite teacher whose name was Wendy. I have met/know of lots of Asian people who use it as their English name.

Talapia · 14/08/2023 03:37

I like it and think it's due a revival.

Talapia · 14/08/2023 03:55

I like it and think it's ready for a revival.

HerculesMulligan · 14/08/2023 04:12

My best friend is a Wendy and she’s my favourite person in the world. And very stylish, quite different to the mental picture most of you have.

Daffodilwoman · 14/08/2023 06:38

I’ve met a few Wendys. I think it’s unusual for a child so she won’t be one of many in her class at school. I’ve come across far worse names. Then again I’m not a fan of old lady/old man names. I like classic names but not the Olive/Arthur type and I don’t see Wendy as one of those old lady names. I’d put it in the same category as Dorothy and Barbara.

lifesrichpageant · 14/08/2023 07:24

Love it.

lifesrichpageant · 14/08/2023 07:25

In the same family as "Valerie"? Anyway I think it's lovely

magicintheair · 14/08/2023 07:45

I know one Wendy. She's two faced, fake and I hate spending any time in her company. So it would be a no from me.

Spanielsarepainless · 14/08/2023 07:47

I know several lovely Wendys and I agreed it's due for a revival.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 15/08/2023 01:02

Wendy House.
Awful name.

ashitghost · 15/08/2023 16:44

Sorry I think it’s awful.

Daphnis156 · 15/08/2023 20:33

Wendy can seem a dowdy name, and certainly not a young image.
There are so many better choices...
