Too old man for a baby?!

My DP wants to call our DS Frank after his grandad. I have had some positive comments but mainly negative. Is it too harsh / old man for a baby?
I do not like Francis or Franklin so it would be just Frank or pick a different name but my DP has his heart set on Frank

Frank is fine 🙂

I know a baby Frank- I think it's definitely come back to modern again! Go for it OP :)

OP As others have said, it's popular at the moment. Well within the top 100 England and Wales names: https://names.darkgreener.com/#frank

Pefectly good name and certainly not too 'old man' (all babies, with luck, will end up as old people) but much prefer Francis.

You’ve misread the graph. It’s at #192, not #92!

Regardless, Frank is a great strong name (although I also prefer Francis). Frankie is a sweet pet form while he is little and will fit in nicely with all the Alfies and Freddies.

Donotshushme · 07/08/2023 08:20

It's just such an ugly name. Frankie is ok as the ie ending saves it, but Frank... no. Middle name territory.

Daffodilwoman · 07/08/2023 08:21

If you don’t like it then don’t use it. It’s that simple.

Jayneisagirlsname · 07/08/2023 08:23

I love Frank, probably because I taught the most wonderful, sunshiney little one (who is now 8). I've had a lot of Frankies but he was the only Frank (so far!).

Highlyflavouredgravy · 07/08/2023 08:26

It's bloody awful
Aa is reggie,alfie, albie etc
Just so ugly

Frank is 192, Frankie is 65th!

continentallentil · 07/08/2023 09:40

It’s very popular right now.

mosiacmaker · 07/08/2023 09:41

I like Frank and you can always call him Frankie when he’s small?

Orangepeg · 07/08/2023 09:38

Frank is 192, Frankie is 65th!

It’s a bit like Isabel//Isobel/Isabelle/Isabella though - you have to take all the Francis/Franklin/Frankies and Franks together (because they are pretty much all going to end up being called Frank) to see how popular it really is.

user1492757084 · 07/08/2023 10:51

To be frank - Frank is a nice name.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/08/2023 20:57

I'd prefer Francis and shorten it to Frank.

Dacadactyl · 07/08/2023 20:59

I like it

Alargeoneplease89 · 07/08/2023 20:59

Oooh Betty.... everytime I hear Frank I think of Frank Spencer 😂

Fivebeanchilli · 07/08/2023 22:09

I think Frankie is awful. But Frank is nice enough.

HeyYouWithTheSadFace · 07/08/2023 23:59

Frankie is on trend!

Francis and Franklin are horrific

Enko · 08/08/2023 09:35

I like Frank a lot. I do not like Francis or Frankie/Franklin

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 10/08/2023 21:53

I quite like it, and it's no more "old man" than Jack or Harry would have been up to about 30 years ago, or Archie maybe 20 years ago.

He would very likely get called Frankie sometimes, so consider whether you can live with that. It's no fun being the kid who has to keep saying "don't call me that" when people go to call them a very ordinary version of their name that their parents don't like.

Thepossibility · 10/08/2023 22:03

I think it's nice. I'd call him Frankie while he was small though, cranky Frankie while he's teething Grin

User3735 · 10/08/2023 22:08

I love Frank, I know several who are all Francis or Franklin (parents all in their 30's) but all known as Frank or Franky 95% of the time, and I think it works as a standalone name.

fantasticfrank · 10/08/2023 22:26

I have a Frank, also named after a grandad. He's just Frank, Francis was his grandad's name but we knew we'd never use it.

Do it, it's not harsh. He hates being called Frankie though...

bridgetreilly · 11/08/2023 12:53

You’re naming a person, not just a baby. Frank is a great name.

IHateWasps · 11/08/2023 15:02

Frank is such an unpleasant and harsh sounding name. It's terrible.

Only in your opinion 😂
