I really like your choices.

Some points to consider

Juniper is quite on trend so it might date badly. I’m not really keen on the sounds broken up “jew” and “nipper”. I think Juno is a cool, spunky choice with a solid history to back it up. I also like Julia and Jessamine if you can’t use Juliette.

I love the name Mina, it’s international, sophisticated, different enough to not date badly but fitting in with current trends for 4 letter names ending in “a”. It means love in German, which I think is a beautiful meaning for a daughter.

Hera is also nice. I think the correct pronunciation is “hair- ah”? If so you might have people pronouncing like “hear-ah”. Not sure if this would bother you. I love Hero too, but too bold a choice for some.

Persephone - I don’t like the historical connotations, but I like the nickname options of Sephy and Nina a lot.

I love Zinnia - so chic. Shame DH isn’t on board.

Would also suggest, Zadie, Xenia, Xanthe, Hermione, Lara, Cressida, Cosima, Lucia, Anya and Anoushka.

KirstenBlest · 06/08/2023 11:18

Beatrix -ok, much prefer Beatrice
Zinnia - a bit too modern for me
Evanna (dh not a fan) - me neither, will be said as Ivana, another Evie
Penelope - will be Penny
Josephine - will be Jo/Josie
Rosamund - Rosalind is nicer

juniper/juni - no
mina - no, meaner
hera - yes
persephone (bit of a mouthful with our surname)

Juliette, Thea - Juliet is nice but I don't like Juliette. Thea is meh

Suggestions: Thora, Thirsa, Flora, Sabina, Zelda

How is Zinnia modern? It’s the name of a flower

Meen- nerr

KirstenBlest · 06/08/2023 12:03

@Nocturnaradish , it's not modern as a flower, it's a bit modern as a girl's name

KirstenBlest · 06/08/2023 12:14

@Nocturnaradish ,
Correct pronunciation for the word "meaner" is [mˈiːnə], [mˈiːnə], [mˈiːn_ə].

Bit cherry picked, it’s the difference between the ɝ and the ə.

if you pronounce the sound in bird the same as the sound in dada then fine. But I don’t and I’ve never heard it pronounce with this longer errr sound.

KirstenBlest · 06/08/2023 12:57

@Nocturnaradish , I don't get your bird and dada point, the sounds are different. Burd and dahdah. bird - schwa in a stressed syllable, dada - a in an unstressed syllable

I say Sarah as Sairuh, Nina as Neenuh, Meaner as Meenuh, Mina as Meenuh.

arlequin · 06/08/2023 13:00
