Hi,
We love the name Marley for our little boy due later this year.
Aware Marley & me was a popular film years ago where Marley was a dog so people may think it is a dog name.
We love it especially as we love softer names but great to get some opinions!!
Any thoughts on this name? ☺️
Thank you

No, I associate it with Jacob Marley, who was as nasty as Scrooge.

An ex fiancé of mine had a little boy from a previous relationship and he was named Marley. He said he came up with it when looking at the sky one day and the clouds looked all marbley, which morphed onto Marley.

it was certainly cute on a young baby, but with any name I’d go through the life phases mentally and see if you think it would work when they’re a teen, when they are working in their 30s and when they are retired and 70/80. If you don’t immediately react that it may cause embarrassment or seem inappropriate or clunky, then go for it!

But many modern names will be the norm in 70 years! He won't be 70 and surrounded by Pete and Gary, will he? He'll be (still at work at 70 in the U.K.!) surrounded by Franklins and Baileys and such like.

It's always reminded me of Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol - he's the first ghost Scrooge sees.

But I do know a grown-up Marley, dad to two kids, so I suppose you get used to it on a particular individual.

Omg. I wouldn't have thought of this but now you've said it 🤣

Marley and Me is a film about a dog dying. 80% of people will think of a dead dog. The other 20% will think of reggae music.

Lots of people have never seen Marley and Me. On the other hand, most people have seen or read some version of a Christmas Carol. So around 30% will think of a dog dying, 60% will think of an unpleasant old skinflint doomed to spend eternity as a ghost in chains, and 10% may think of reggae music.

I really love it. Super cute for a little boy 😍

To me it means Scrooge's partner.

I generally don't like surname names. I prefer 'proper' names like Alexander, Sebastian, Joseph, etc. But each to their own.
