So my friend used her DS1 middle name as DS2 first name. No1 batted an eyelid as it was a family name of a very treasured man who passed very tragically

what’s your thoughts? Have you done this?

I don’t see a problem with it, it’s nice that they have a link to each other, and the past.

OopsieeDaisy · 02/08/2023 08:15

Also interested to know thoughts on this, I’ve considered it myself and just can’t decide! I don’t think there’s anything awfully wrong with it though, especially as middle names are used so rarely!

SemperIdem · 02/08/2023 08:16

I think it’s a little odd.

But I don’t like naming after family/friends anyway.

JenniferBarkley · 02/08/2023 08:18

I wouldn't do it (and I wouldn't want to use a deceased family member's name as a first name) but it's not so crazy. Even the royal family did it - George has Louis as a middle name I think.

Not a big deal and not worth posting your friend's business online - it's pretty recognisable.

Darthwazette · 02/08/2023 08:18

It was ok for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

I think it’s a bit odd really.

PickledScrump · 02/08/2023 08:37

I find it a bit odd, I’d rather give my children completely individual names, but there’s nothing wrong with it

ThomasinaLivesHere · 02/08/2023 09:08

On having the middle name of a sibling I don’t see an issue. People rarely use middle names. On naming after a relative I’m less keen but wouldn’t judge.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/08/2023 09:28

I generally have no problem forming an opinion about names but in this case I cannot imagine having any position at all, especially given the context.

FayCarew · 02/08/2023 10:33

The then Cambridges did it but it was one of their DC1's several middle names.
Prince Philip & the then Queen gave named their DC4 using one of their DC3's many middle names.

I think if it was something like Noah David Smith and David George Smith it might look a bit unimaginative.

porkfatbacon · 02/08/2023 11:42

I wouldn't bat an eye or care at all. A non-issue.

porkfatbacon · 02/08/2023 11:48

If I knew someone personally had done it it would be so blah that it would barely register. Odd or strange is calling your child Bean, not whatever this is.

bumbledeedum · 02/08/2023 21:37

Exact same situation with my other half and his brother

bumbledeedum · 02/08/2023 21:38

Posted too soon. No one cares and most people don't notice as adults

Thebirdhouse · 03/08/2023 01:25

I share a name with a sibling (one has it as a mn and the other as a fn.).
Nobody ever knew or cared. I don't get the angst about middle names on MN as whoever introduces themselves by saying their first and middle names?

Crunchymum · 03/08/2023 11:22

So her first son is Max James and second son is James Paul? Names are obviously examples.

No issues from me at all.

Midgely23 · 03/08/2023 12:47

@Crunchymum yes that is exactly it
