Flynn or Felix

Hi!

Looking for names to go with sibling Alec. Alec is the full name so two syllables would work best with surname.

Names we do like but can't decide are;

Flynn
Felix

Don't know any children around us with these names but I am aware of the creeping popularity of Felix.

Thanks.

Love Flynn.
Felix makes me think of:

  1. cat food
  2. Wreck it Ralph (Fix-it Felix) or
  3. OO7 (Felix Leiter)
I also know what pp means about Alex and Felix If you were doing matchy Alec and Eric Alec and Isaac Other two syllable Alec and Ezra Alec and Asa

Flynn is lovely though.

Felixstowe is a cat to me.
I could have sworn it was a town in Suffolk.

Flynn is lovely

Saying Alec and Felix together makes me slip into saying Alex

Exactly this!

Really surprised to see pp describing Flynn as faddy or a passing trend. It’s never been especially popular. I wonder if they are conflating it with Finn, which when combined with the very popular Finley is very popular indeed. I think Flynn would be frequently misheard as Finn for the same reason.

DuchessOfSausage · 15/08/2023 09:48

Finn and Flynn sound very similar @ZoyaTheDestroyer . Lots of Finns will be Finley and variations on their bc. If you combine the Fin* names with Flynn they seem faddy.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/08/2023 09:49

Yes, that was exactly my point @DuchessOfSausage.

DuchessOfSausage · 15/08/2023 09:56

But it's a bit like saying that Isobel is really unusual and not faddy. It might be true but if you combine it with all the Isabel(le)/Isabella then it seems very run-of-the-mill

Belladonna56 · 15/08/2023 09:58

I prefer Flynn. Alec and Flynn sound nice together. (I don't think Flynn sounds chavvy).

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/08/2023 09:59

Have to agree to disagree with you there, Duchess. Isobel is an exact homophone for Isabelle and Isabel. Flynn is not an exact homophone for Finn, despite being very similar.

DuchessOfSausage · 15/08/2023 10:09

🙄I say Isobel differently to Isabel.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/08/2023 10:11

OK 😊

RavingStyle · 15/08/2023 11:06

Ooh, tricky... I really like both!

I think Flynn edges it for me because of the cat food association with Felix.

M00nknight · 18/08/2023 13:06

Felix ? Are you naming a cat ?
