How would you pronounce Romy? I thought it was Row-mee and I thought that was the French too but heard it pronounced now as Roh-me (short oh sound if that makes sense

I know two and they are both called Rome-ee... or Roe-mee or Row (your boat) mee or however you spell it with the long O

PickledScrump · 31/07/2023 20:54

Only ever known it said as Rom-ee as in CD Rom. Not a fan of it

I'd say rom ee (like cd rom)

Ive never heard it said out loud.

This. Was also about to type CD-ROM as my Rom reference. 😂

Rom Me

Neverseenbefore · 01/08/2023 01:26

Roe-me.

It can’t be Rommy, as in CD ROM or rom-com. It would never be pronounced like that linguistically, because the Y changes the vowel sound, just as the E does in Rome.

And it’s short for Rosemary, so should keep the Rose sound.

CinnamonBunAndCoffee · 01/08/2023 01:27

Rome -ee

arlequin · 16/08/2023 22:36

Row-mee

boysmuminherts · 16/08/2023 22:40

I understand why PPs are saying Row me but I reckon Rom ee as it's short for Romilly? (Which is pronounced Rom i lee)

Blessedbethefruitz · 16/08/2023 22:43

I know a Romy in her mid 30s. She's called Row-mee. My only experience with the name though!

Dalekjastninerels · 17/08/2023 06:17

Row me (same as in Romy and Michelle)

ThePaperTrail · 17/08/2023 11:15

To rhyme with "show me".

TheMauveOP · 05/08/2024 21:22

In France and Germany it is Rom - ee

NeighbourTrouble63 · 05/08/2024 21:26

‘Row’ (as in row your boat) - mee

DaisyFloop · 05/08/2024 21:27

Rome ee

Apileofballyhoo · 05/08/2024 21:29

I'd say it to rhyme with Tommy not Tony.

JackieO22 · 05/08/2024 21:29

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/08/2024 21:35

I know two, both Row me

arlequin · 05/08/2024 21:47

The French O sound is half way between Rom and Roam I would say.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 06/08/2024 08:57

Roe-me, unless you're actually living in a country where they traditionally pronounce it differently.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 06/08/2024 08:59

Rome ee
