Used to love them, wouldn’t do it now due to gender ideology

FloofCloud · 28/07/2023 07:39

Cameron
Remy

EugeneEufy · 28/07/2023 07:44

Same as @SayingwhatIreallythink. I really wanted to call my DD Jaime but glad I gave her an obvious ‘girl’ name now although she wishes I’d gone with it!

I wouldn’t say Wren would work for a boy, I love Rowan, Robyn/Robin also.

AnxiousShep · 28/07/2023 07:44

Why do you want people to rank them?

Ellie2023 · 28/07/2023 07:48

Thanks so much for your responses so far! @AnxiousShep we’re working on our current shortlist and would love to hear people’s thoughts on the names/ favourites from our list

I like Frankie and Stevie from your list. I think Ashley and Andie could also be an option?

FoodFann · 28/07/2023 07:54

IMO:
BOYS
Rowan - fave for a boy
Sidney - boys name, least fave
GIRLS
Wren - girls name, least fave for girls
Robin - fave for a girl
NOT NAMES
Frankie - not a real name
Stevie - not a real name

RubyWedding · 28/07/2023 07:57

I hate Stevie and Frankie with a passion, boys or girls. Awful names.

Wren is surely a girls' name? Sidney surely for boys? (my grandad was a Sid and you wouldn't find more of a man's man than him!).

I have known a couple of Robins / Robyns (female) but for a boy, Robin sounds very dated and rather wet (I'd put it in the same bracket as Timothy; the shortening is ok but the actual name I'm not keen on). Much prefer Robyn for a girl.

Rowan is my favourite of the bunch if I have to pick just one name from the list for a child of either sex, but it wouldn't be high on my list overall.

I think maybe I'm not really a fan of gender neutral names in general. I like strong names and they tend to be a bit wishy-washy, neither one thing nor the other.

salamithumbs · 28/07/2023 08:19

I like Robyn and Wren for a girl but Wren on a boy seems quite feminine to me. I like Frankie for a boy and Rowan is nice for either! Not a fan of Sidney or Stevie, sorry!

GlitteringUnicorn · 28/07/2023 08:21

Alex
Charlie

salamithumbs · 28/07/2023 08:22

Just to add, I like Alex and Charlie for both girls and boys but I'd put Alexandra/Charlotte on the birth cert for a girl.

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/07/2023 08:24

Rowan is the only one I really like from your list. Sorry !

DuchessOfSausage · 28/07/2023 09:31

Rowan - like but it's far more popular for boys
Robin - not sure if I like it
Stevie - ok, but Evie is very popular, seems dated for a boy
Sidney - not keen
Frankie - don't like it
Wren - dreadful

Rowan is the only one I'd consider

DuckIings · 28/07/2023 12:00

I love Frankie short for Francesca.

don’t like the rest.

I do like unisex nicknames like:
Sam
Alex
Max
Jo(e)

RuthW · 28/07/2023 12:22

Sidney/Sydney at the top. Rest at the bottom

TrueScrumptious · 28/07/2023 12:23

Rowan is the only usable one.

DinaofCloud9 · 28/07/2023 12:25

Rowan and Robin are nice.

I don't think Wren works for a boy at all plus it's an awful name jmo.

strongcupofTea · 28/07/2023 12:53

Sorry I don't really like any of those names to be honest. They sound pretentious

continentallentil · 28/07/2023 12:54

Robin - love it and prefer this spelling for both sexes
Sydney - really nice and I’d probably go with this as less popular than Robin
Stevie - I like it as a nn but I do think it needs Stephen/Stephanie as a full name.
Frankie - I like it but I think it needs Francis/Franklin or Frances/Francesca as a full name
Rowan - I like it but it’s done to death
Wren - I don’t like it and it’s very much a girls’ name

Arran?

AdaColeman · 28/07/2023 12:55

I've got mixed feelings uon gender neutral names tbh, they often seem more like gender confused names to me. For instance Wren seems more feminine and Robin more male to me.
I quite like Sidney/Sydney for a boy, but would spell it Cydney for a girl.

Other names I think would work are Lee/Leigh, Ashley/Ashleigh, Elliot, and I like Claude for a boy or girl.

How in the world is Robin or Rowan or Frankie pretentious? They are all very popular. As has Stevie been in the past.

WhenSomedayComes · 28/07/2023 12:59

I’ve only ever known Wren as a boy’s name but perhaps it would work for a girl too. After all, you do get female wrens! It’s the nicest on your list OP imo.

ZacharinaQuack · 28/07/2023 13:01

I would use Rowan for a girl and Robin for a boy.
