Stuck for boys names

We have a nearly 3 week old little boy and I'm really stuck for a name! We have a Finn already. All we have come up with so far is Toby or Lucas or for something more unusual, Jacoby. What are peoples thoughts?

Tobin makes me immediately think of the serial killer, Peter Tobin.

My thoughts exactly 🙈

Copasetic · 29/07/2023 17:17

I’ve got a Gabriel (Gabe) which I would choose again but love Nathaniel (Nate), Jude, Theo and lots of biblical names like Caleb. I like Tobias and Tobin, and prefer Jacoby to Jacob.

Just find something that can't be spelt wrong, that he will be able to spell, that his friends will be able to spell, that isn't so much of the time that his age will be obvious to everyone - think of all the Kylies that appeared late 80's. Also, try to pick a name that enables him to get fridge magnets, key rings etc with his name on. I have heard so many kids being upset in seaside shops because their name doesn't appear on anything - might be a small thing to parents but it's a huge thing to the kids

This!!!
why focus on what sibling names sound good together? I can’t think of any scenarios where they are referenced together?

I have a brother in law called Finn, his brother is called Raif. I think they sound lovely together and from a bunch of siblings with less common names!

BLT24 · 29/07/2023 18:57

Jacoby - no, it sounds like a made up name

Jacob is lovely
Jack
Joseph
Jude
Sebastian

All go lovely with Finn but honestly I don’t think anyone except their parents think if sibling names go together or not

I always think about how well siblings names go together! I may be weird, but I sometimes wonder why people choose names that are clearly very different. Having 4 kids, and being 1 of 4, I do think people say siblings names together quite a lot.

I also come from a family of unusual names, and I didn't care if ny name wasn't in keyrings etc.

Op, I like

Finn & Rory
Finn & mack
Finn & callum
Finn & anything gaelic

Jacoby makes me think of the actor Derek jacobi. Also feels like a babiefied version of Jacob

Someone already mentioned Zachary, I’m going to second it - my two boys are Zachary (Zach) and Davy. Middle names Seth and Wyatt

Have to say I’m not a fan of Jacoby sorry, the y seems unnecessary to me! Lots of other lovely names been mentioned too.

Congratulations on your second baby boy - it’s fun being out-numbered ;)

Whenever I write a birthday/Christmas card their names get written together!

It wasn’t the end of the world but I did think about how my boys’ names sounded together.

and maybe I’m a grump but I’m grateful to not end up with a pile of tat with their names on 😆😂

Jacob, Jake, Luca, Luke, Tobias, Peter, Lucian

Middlelifecoming · 29/07/2023 22:31

I have a Tobias. Never shorten it to Toby. I didn’t like Toby at all weirdly but love Tobias

OffTheWall90 · 30/07/2023 07:44

You can go on office of national statistics boys names and filter on a-z or popularity etc and you can see wberyname registered from only 1 registered to the names in the top 100 with thousands registered. X

bulletproof1979 · 30/07/2023 09:26

I wouldn't worry about the length - it would inevitably be shortened to Jake/ Jack by those around him. I think it's a bit of a novelty name that you'd regret.

Girliegurl · 30/07/2023 11:32

I have an Oliver and Toby and a two week old who we have named Harry 😊

Sennelier1 · 30/07/2023 14:42

My grandsons are Otis and Lewis, I love both their names. Feel free to use them ❤️

It really doesn’t matter if they go together or not though. I’m one of six siblings and also a twin and no one has ever commented on whether our names ‘go together’ or not 😂 They’re in separate classes at school and have separate lives as grown ups. No one cares.
