I know none, not one Alexander and not one Alexandra and it is the name we have chosen (depending on gender) for LO, but just recently I've seen Alexander/Alexander/Alexia on a lot of names threads so was wondering if it's goign to suddenly be everywhere if I use it.

Thanks Dizzy!

Well VS I was watching Monarch of the Glen when pg with her so think it did have an influence although I had liked it for a long time since having a squash instructor called Lexi but the Monarch one influenced my spelling as wasn't keen on the one with no e!!

Our daughter is an Alexandra (Alex) and we know a boy called Alex of the same age (3).

jeanjeannie · 26/02/2008 14:03

DP is called Aleksander but as his parents are Polish & Serbian he's always been called Sasa (sasha). I love the name for both boys & girls - like Alexi too. But it's off limits for us as DP reckons anyone called Alexs is headstrong, wilfull and give parents a hard time......and his mother would agree

dizzydixies · 27/02/2008 20:32

jeanjeannie - that applys to our Lexie too so far

MrsMattie · 27/02/2008 20:35

There is one boy called Alex at DS's nursery. I know one adult man called Alex (Alexei), and one adult woman called Alex (Alexis). That's it. It's not a common name, although it's not 'unusual' either, iyswim. I love Alex for a girl.

minster · 27/02/2008 20:57

Lots - Alexandra x2, Alexandria, Alexia, Alexander x2 (although one is known as Xander), my cousin has an Alessandra.

OrmIrian · 27/02/2008 21:12
  1. Including DS#1. All of them apart from one are around 11yrs of age. The other one is 3 and lives in our street - I like to pretend that he was named after my wonderful perfect boy but somehow I doubt that

And I knew none until we'd named DS. Same thing happened with DD - knew no Eleanor's until we'd named our DD....then there were flocks of them.

MuffinMclay · 27/02/2008 21:18

2 Alexandras - one 6 years, one 36 years (latter known as Alex)
1 Alexis - 26 years
1 Alexander - 26 years (known as Ali)

QuintessentialShadow · 27/02/2008 21:21

Aside from my son ( great name! ) there is one more in our neighbourhood, he is 9, though. There are no other Alexs in my sons school, and there has never been another Alex in his old nursery either.

We did come across another Alex on the plan to Gran Canaria a few weeks back, though!

eidsvold · 27/02/2008 21:28

three - two girls and a boy - all in their 20's.

Boy is just Alex

girls are Alexandra and Alexandria.

MrsKevinMcCloud · 27/02/2008 21:29

3 x Alex's
1 x Alexandra

One is my DH, the rest all attend DDs nursery.

It's a good strong name I think and you certainly don't come across that many normally I think - maybe I just notice them more.

I wouldn't worry too much about how many you have come across recently. I certainly have noticed a lot more occurrances of my chosen boys name (chose it 15 years ago) since I have discovered I am having our first DS

Desiderata · 27/02/2008 21:31

One, and I don't like him.

I like the name, but he's an old git.

VictorianSqualor · 28/02/2008 09:26

RosieMac · 28/02/2008 14:15

One Alex a boy, one Alex a girl, one Lexi (Alexandra)

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/02/2008 14:16

Four adults, three children.

Fimbo · 28/02/2008 14:19

2
A girl of 10 who's formal name is Alexandra
A baby of 18mths who's formal name is Alexandre (spelt this way as Dad is foreign)

samkearsey · 28/02/2008 14:20

i have an alexander and know 2 other toddlers and a 28 year old!
but look at shortenings like alex, lex, xander etc

Sugarmagnolia · 28/02/2008 14:20

At least 4 at DS's nursery! It's quite funny actually because they all call each other by their full names:

Alex A: ?Alex B. do you want to play??
Alex B: ?Yes Alex A, what should we play??
