Walter & William - don’t do it?

We are days off meeting DS2 and no closer to a name. DH likes words/places that can hardly be stretched to human names. My taste is very boring/common (Thomas, Jude, Hugh). Much to my shock, DH has turned around saying William is on his list. But DC1 is Walter. Brothers Walter & William? Walt & Will? Too many foreseeable issues (initial mixups, matchy matchy, etc)? This will be our final child, we’re at no risk of a 3rd.

Personally I think it sounds ridiculous but I wouldn't comment to you and if you love it then go for it.

katecrackernuts · 13/07/2023 15:01

Wally and Willy?

Hugh is very nice.

watcherintherye · 13/07/2023 15:06

I think it’s fine. Love Walt and Will! Potential problems with post later on, but maybe they can use second name initials for anything which needs to come by post - increasingly rare these days. Not like they’re twins in same year at school, with same birthdays etc. Xmas might be tricky!

I'm with @katecrackernuts I immediately thought Wally and Willy.
So it's a no from me.

I think matchy initials are awful and yes the names are too similar. I’d go for something different personally 😊

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 13/07/2023 15:12

I thought Wally and Willy too.

wineymummy · 13/07/2023 15:14

I love both names but I don't think you can have Walt and Will. But if William was Billy would it be OK?

continentallentil · 13/07/2023 17:05

It’s not awful but it is twee..

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/07/2023 21:05

I love both Thomas, Hugh and William so am not much help in that regard (trendy Jude not my taste, sorry).

But I will go again the grain on this thread and say Walter and William as a sibset sound great to me . They have obvious different sounds so aren't too matchy imo - and when Walter was last popular in the 1900's-30's there are bound to have been lots of sibsets with both a Walter and a William (as William has always been popular).

It will likely be their full names or Walt and Will when older, not Wally and Willy (Wally hasn't been used as an insult for decades now, not even sure most kids are aware what it means! and William is so commonplace in many school's they are unlikely to get teased with Willy now either imo).

While sharing an initial with another family member might not be ideal, in practice it is not a big deal either- I share one with my sibling and the vast majority of our post either had first name plus surname or all our forename initials (including middle ones) plus surname so there was rarely any confusion. Just make sure the middle initial/s are different. Our mum used to say it saved money on nametape for school😂

LlynTegid · 13/07/2023 21:06

Just no.

CheersToMe · 13/07/2023 21:21

Oh dear.
Where's Wally?
Where's Willy?

shoopshoopdedoo · 13/07/2023 22:23

I don’t think it’s too bad. They will only really come as a set if you write their names on a Christmas card, otherwise they will be individuals and both have totally normal names!

whatausername · 13/07/2023 23:45

Willy Wally!

Hollyppp · 14/07/2023 10:07

I like Walter and Jude

Chewbecca · 14/07/2023 10:29

I think people place too much importance on 'going with' sibling's name. The name needs to stand alone as a great name. William is a good name!
