Baby girl due soon and we're struggling to find names we both like.

DS has a really common name and it is a bit annoying when there is always another boy with his name wherever we go, so we wanted to go more off piste with DD.

So far, names we both agree have potential include:

Chloe
Amelie
Tamia
Sierra
Niamh (one parent is Irish)
Aoife
Eloise
Gabriella

Any thoughts?

Chloe - fine but bit bland
Amelie - just reminds me of Amelia and every other girl under 10 seems to be an Olivia or Amelia
Tamia - no
Sierra - no
Niamh (one parent is Irish) - nice
Aoife - nice
Eloise - pretty on a French girl, Love Island contestanty on an English one
Gabriella - fine

Chloe: nice enough but very common so you'll have the same issue as with your ds.
Amelie: pretty but a bit try hard
Tamia: I love this, pretty and unusual but could use Tammy if they wanted.
Sierra: a car
Niamh (one parent is Irish): just not fussed on this one and quite overused I think.
Aoife: not my taste
Eloise: lovely
Gabriella: my favourite of this list.

Niamh Eloise /Nell

thelongskinnymartini · 06/07/2023 20:13

Chloe - Overused
Amelie - Nice, but very similar to overused Amelia
Tamia - Reminds me of RnB singer
Sierra - Reminds me of RnB singer
Niamh - fine
Aoife - Probably ignorant English person but no clue how to pronounce
Eloise - nice but tad frilly? Elodie and young Eloise on my estate. Think Bridgerton will cause it to become popular
Gabriella - Reminds me of the RnB singer

Chloe
Niamh (one parent is Irish)
Eloise

I like the above from your list op.

How about:

Camille
Estelle
Lucia
Sabine
Cerys
Tulah
Sorcha
Delilah
Sylvie

Topazbutterfly · 06/07/2023 22:35

My favourites are Amelie and Gabriella, I think they're both really lovely names.

I like Chloe but it is very popular, I work in a nursery and we've always got at least three Chloe's so if it bothers you, then that's something to think about.

Other name suggestions: Sienna, Felicity, Mariah, Celine, Cassandra, Tabatha, Ciara, Arabella.

Melonsoup · 06/07/2023 22:40

Chloe - not for me
Amelie - really like it
Tamia - not for me
Sierra - not for me
Niamh (one parent is Irish) - really love Niamh, always have
Aoife - another of my favourites
Eloise - nope
Gabriella - nope

ladygindiva · 06/07/2023 22:44

They're all nice names, my faves are Gabriella, Aoife, Niamh and Chloe in that order. Gabriella Niamh runs nicely together.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 06/07/2023 22:46

Chloe. Timeless and pretty.

I love the sound of the name Aoife, but the nightmare of spelling it every single time...

WhatADrabCarpet · 06/07/2023 22:54

Sorry but I don't like Tamia.

Sounds like a product.

The rest of your list isn't unusual, if that's what you're hoping for , but I've been a TA for over 25 years.

BeeandG · 06/07/2023 23:13

I have a Gabriella and love the name. I also loved Chloe. If I had another I'd be looking at Constance. I think its a beautiful name.

Wafflesforbreakfast · 08/07/2023 15:17

Aoife and Amelie are beautiful.
The others are nice. I have worked in schools for 20+ years and haven't met either an Amelie or Aoife so can't be that common.

ididntwanttodoit · 13/09/2023 15:47

My thoughts are:
Chloe lovely
Amelie loverly but "trendy"
Tamia weird (never heard of it)
Sierra awful
Niamh (one parent is Irish) ok but hard to spell
Aoife lovely but even harder to spell and difficult for an English speaker to read
Eloise lovely
Gabriella lovely but a bit Italian (not saying that's a bad thing)
