DH likes Aria and I like Wren…

But we don’t particularly agree!
we like unusual names but not unheard of. He’s not keen on Wren which is fair enough. I like how Aria sounds but I’m concerned there will be a lot of correcting ‘Area’ or ‘Ar-eye-a ‘ etc

what else might we like?

we don’t know gender and agree we like Bodhi for a boy :)

We have an Aria and really liked Wren for the baby we’re due very soon but ultimately it wasn’t the name. We’re going with Leia (nope, not Star Wars fans) but other names we considered were Rae, Ines, Leni and Anais.

We rarely get the GOT comment with Aria (I’ve literally never seen it, I got the name from Pretty Little Liars 😂) and the pronunciations tend to be ‘Ar-ee-yah’ (which is how we want it) or ‘Ah-ree-ah’. Doesn’t particularly bother me when people get it ‘wrong’.

Good luck deciding!

It’s very true that Aria is becoming very popular though - I’d never heard of one when we had DD and then one of the midwives on the postnatal ward was called Aria, I heard one being shouted in the supermarket and now there’s one in DD’s class, too 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’d say Wren is about the same popularity though. Still, much less commonly heard than many.

graygoose · 03/07/2023 10:06

Arden? My friend's little girl is called that and I think it's similar vibes to Aria/Wren/Arwen.

p.s. LOVE Wren, sorry your DH doesn't like it.

windowof · 03/07/2023 10:51

I'd say both Wren and Aria are getting very popular now so not really unusual any more. Both lovely names just not unusual.
I'd look at other bird or music names as those are the basis of Wren or Aria.
Some suggestions could be-
Bird names:
Robyn, Dove, Paloma, Vega, Lark, Astor.

Musical names:
Cadence, Harper, Piper, Calliope, Melody, Viola.

I only know of one Bhodi in real life, it's a very cute hippy kind of name. Love it.

ChequeredPastel · 03/07/2023 10:53

Both of those names are from pretty little liars 😄😂 are you a fan?

ApolloandDaphne · 03/07/2023 10:55

OopsieeDaisy · 03/07/2023 09:24

Wren just makes me think of the kitchen shop.
Aria is ok but becoming quite popular, at least in my area.
Bridie is nice and a similar style.

A Bridie is a Scottish meat pie! Nice with beans for lunch, less nice as a name. (I am aware it is an actual name)

Twizbe · 03/07/2023 10:56

Gosh, if you want to be unusual don’t go for Aria, Wren or Bohdi. I know sooooooooo many of them under 5 (I volunteer at a few baby / toddler groups)

at the moment all the boys are either Louis / Louie, Boden or Bohdi

all the girls are either Ivy, Wren or some other nature name.

If you want to be unique in their generation names like Sarah, Jennifer, Jessica, Nigel, David etc are rarely heard in the playground.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/07/2023 10:56

Ariela
Rowan
Nova
Sienna
Aurora

MrsCarson · 03/07/2023 11:11

Ariadne.

tonyhawks23 · 03/07/2023 11:14

Yes I thought you must be big pretty little liars fans too! Both lovely names!

Gaggley · 03/07/2023 11:14

Enya or Anya
Alanna

MovingBird123 · 03/07/2023 11:45

I don't know why anyone would mispronounce Aria. It's just a type of song. Beautiful name choice. Wren is cute too. Suggestions for Robyn are lovely.

Bodhi is ridiculous IMO. I think it's best to choose names from your own tradition and heritage. Apologies if I've been presumptuous and it actually is...

Viva is beautiful

Viva? After the exam?

Babyboomtastic · 03/07/2023 11:59

This.

They are not unusual names any more, they've been on the up for years.

MissHavershamReturns · 03/07/2023 12:07

Viva meaning live/alive @garlictwist which is why the exam is also called viva voce. This was my aunt’s name and I adore it.

tewneams · 03/07/2023 12:13

I like Renee

Whichwhatnow · 03/07/2023 12:21

My friends have a Rowan - similar sound/feel to your other two names? She's also one of the coolest and most gorgeous little girls I know so it has good connotations for me! Also love Romy/Romilly if either of those appeal?

Are you fixed on Bodhi? I only ask because I know quite a few little Bodhis (my social circle is pretty hippyish/alternative) and for me it now feels like the go-to name for people who want to give their kid a 'different' name but don't actually have much imagination. Sorry! If you have a different kind of circle of friends it may well still be seen as unusual.

Littlemisssunshine31 · 03/07/2023 12:59

Thanks for so much suggestions! And some lovely ones 😊 I like Rowan a lot, also Callie and Arwen is growing on me!

I suppose it depends on area/social circles as I don’t know any other children with these names and I’m a teacher! But appreciate they may not be ‘unusual’ in other areas and I’m ok with that

St0nehenge · 03/07/2023 13:08

Anwen is nice

pjani · 03/07/2023 13:09

You should definitely watch Pretty Little Liars. There's an Aria and a Wren!

I really like both. Sounds like you both like short and slightly hippie names so that's a start for narrowing down. What about:

Skye
Summer
Violet

Purplesquare8 · 03/07/2023 13:20

I wouldn’t say Aria, Wren or Bodhi are at all unusual, actually very trendy and will only go up in the charts. I personally know a couple of children with each of those names and hear them lots at baby groups now. I especially wouldn’t go for Bodhi as I agree with pp that really is the go to name for someone trying to be different (and therefore really isn’t).

Love suggestions of Fern, Robyn, Nova

My LG is called Aria and 9/10 pronounce her name correctly first time.

Normalweirdo · 03/07/2023 16:03

Aria and Bodhi are both pretty common in my area. It might be worth looking in different places for a name eg list of 17th century names, list of Greek names of legends, names meaning x y or z. Cute names used in popular lists very quickly become common. That said there are lots of beautiful names that are quite common. It's just a suggestion. Good luck. I'm sure what ever you chose it will be special to you.
