Hey, so we are Greek living in the Uk and expecting our DS2 in a couple of months.

He will be named after my dad, which is a BIG tradition in Greece (DS1 was named after my DH dad).

My dad is called Aristarchos which I appreciate is a bit of a mouthful and not universal and quite difficult for non British people…

So, we are thinking of introducing him as “Ari” which is a fine nn in Greece and , although I haven’t met any in the Uk, I hope it will go well?

Opinions please?

Ah! Seems an odd choice, but it might be a locally popular name.

If they are Welsh speakers they'll be saying it as Arr-YAN-wenn, which isn't as grating.

Aristarchos is fab. The pronunciation seems pretty intuitive unless I am missing something? I would say ah-ree-STAR-kos?

Ari is great. As pp have said it is popular in Jewish communities. I would personally pronounce to rhyme with ‘starry‘ rather than ‘Harry’. Is this the pronunciation you would use?

@ZoyaTheDestroyer , I think it's more ar-IST-arkh-os
