Vampire from Buffy.
Resurrected in Angel.
Pretty name.

shakeitoffsis · 26/06/2023 09:08

Love it

SirChenjins · 26/06/2023 09:11

Finding Nemo

WetBandits · 26/06/2023 09:12

The mean kid from Finding Nemo!

18baldingstar · 26/06/2023 10:05

It’s a nice name, not one I’ve heard before. I think I prefer Dahlia with Darla as a nn

Barleysugar86 · 26/06/2023 10:06

I like it! bit different but instantly recognisable too.

salamithumbs · 26/06/2023 10:35

I think it's cute but can only imagine it in an American accent like in the Little Rascals!

chunkychunks · 26/06/2023 11:32

Thanks all for your thoughts :)

I love it but DH really not keen :(

I know two baby Darlas born in the past two years so it might be getting more popular as it’s mentioned on naming boards more often recently too. Personally I don’t like it - to me it sounds like the name of a ditsy character from a naff TV series set in America in the 80s.

StopFeckingFaffing · 26/06/2023 13:44

It's not a name I've every come across so I would have assumed it was made up but that clearly isn't the case judging by other responses

I would assume American too (thinking of Darlene from the TV show Roseanne)

I don't hate it but think Darcy or Dahlia are much nicer

TallulahBetty · 26/06/2023 14:34

Little Rascals. Will she have a brother called Alfafa?

Bangleaves · 26/06/2023 15:01

That's my daughters name. I obviously love it! We always get comments on how lovely it is.
I've never had anyone comment that they've heard it before on film/TV

Mutabiliss · 26/06/2023 15:05

Very sweet, I like it but it also reminds me of a Tik Tok sound meme thing that did the rounds a year or so ago, from Little Rascals (Let me raise a toast, to the girl I love the most...)

So for me, I hear it in an American accent. But still lovely.

wineschmine · 26/06/2023 15:26

I haven't heard it before, haven't come across the tik tok references.

Similar to a previous poster, I instantly thought of Darlene from Roseanne.

As much as I loved Roseanne, Darlene would be a bit much (although it is actually quite sweet and refreshing) but I quite like Darla.

SirenSays · 26/06/2023 15:29

Nice name but will always scream Buffy to me

bobby81 · 26/06/2023 15:31

I love it. I wouldn't have made a connection to any tv character.

GlassWall · 26/06/2023 15:35

Horrible! I’m with your DH.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2023 15:45

to me it sounds like the name of a ditsy character from a naff TV series set in America in the 80s.

Yes... not any specific character, just has that sort of vibe.

continentallentil · 26/06/2023 23:29

It makes me think of Rosanne (I know she was Darleen)

It sounds like one of those slightly low rent made up ish mid century names like Marla, Dina, Myra to me, so.. not a fan. It’s the name of the slightly dim next door neighbour in US soap.

Dahlia is quite nice, or even Daria at a push

nocoolnamesleft · 26/06/2023 23:41

My mind also went straight to Buffy.

wizzler · 26/06/2023 23:43

Little Rascals... will she have all the sophistication of a woman of twelve?

MirandaBlu · 26/06/2023 23:47

Purely personal, but Darla, Darlene, and Darleen all remind me too much of the word darling.... and especially how fake TV cowboys have a habit of shortening "Darling" to "Darl". I'd pick Darla I had to choose one, though. Or Darrell.
