Middle name for Gabriel

Hi everyone,

I'm 38 weeks pregnant with a baby boy and we have settled on the name Gabriel ☺️

But we just can't make a final decision on his middle name! It's between William and Benjamin.

Benjamin has family connections, William doesn't.

Which sounds/looks/feels better to you please? Thank you!

Benjamin, but it's a bit long.
Check the initials don't have a bad associations like GBH or something.

Gabriel David sounds nice.

They both sound fine
Go with Benjamin for the family connection, as long as your surname doesn't begin with H.

Benjamin!

zurala · 23/06/2023 17:51

Benjamin. Too many Ls in William to sit nicely with Gabriel.
James also goes nicely

ButtonMoonBlanketSky · 23/06/2023 23:17

Benjamin.

Gabriel William

Thanks for all your replies. Love David, it's my Dad's name and my first borns middle name, so can't have it this time.

James goes really well but its my ex's name so can't be done.

Just for context on Benjamin, it's our nephew's name (11 yrs old). My husband came up with the idea, we're really close to my SIL's family and when Benjamin was born was when I met the family for the first time, our first little boy idolises him.

I just can't work out if this is a really lovely idea or if there is a possibility that SIL & family won't be keen or is it weird to have the middle name for our second son when our first is really close to Benjamin. Or am I just overthinking it? It's easy if the name is after an elder - Dad, grandparents, uncles etc. But is the same generation an issue does anyone think? We're considering putting this to SIL before he arrives

My Gabriel’s middle name is Oscar

DuchessOfSausage · 24/06/2023 10:21

James is a bit of a filler middle name, so although I like it, I'd avoid using it.
I like David too but not keen on Dave as I know lots of them. How about a name that tends to get shortened when used as a first name but nice in full - something like Peter, Andrew, Patrick or Francis?

DuchessOfSausage · 24/06/2023 10:23

How about the other grandfather's name, or a great-grandfather's?
Even if a name seems a bit dated as a first name, it could come back into fashion in a few decades.

Maxymoo1 · 24/06/2023 10:27

We've got Geoffrey, William (Grandads middle name so not really a family name but kind of), Rory and Jack as other family names

And Richard - his Dad. Apart from he's not very keen because he thinks if he was going to use his name it would be for his first born son

I like Geoffrey and Richard, but maybe not GG as part of the initials.
Too late to say that about his name now Smile

Go with Benjamin, middle names aren't used much anyway, or keep your mind open for inspiration.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 24/06/2023 12:27

Paul
Joseph
Thomas
Alexander

DuchessOfSausage · 24/06/2023 12:31

I was thinking of Paul too, or John or Mark. Something not too long or faddy.
Others might be Alan, Niall, Sean, Andrew, Peter...

Persiana · 24/06/2023 12:37

I think there is a bit too much overthinking if you don't mind me saying, I would use Benjamin if you like the sound, not because your other son loves his cousin Benjamin. I would use Richard if you like the sound, why is it an issue to use dad's name as a middle name for second son- odd sense of first born is somehow more fitting to have it?
Geoffrey works well, again wouldn't worry about GG.
Or pick another name that sounds lovely, no family connections needed?
Gabriel Alexander
Gabriel Andrew
Gabriel Frederick
Gabriel Stephen

Persiana · 24/06/2023 12:38

Gabriel Rory works
Like pp, Gabriel Peter is lovely

mrsblueskyeye · 24/06/2023 12:38

How about Benoit?

midsomermurderess · 25/06/2023 06:17

Francis.
