I like the girls name! for the boys name, sorry I couldn’t distinguish if that was a boys or girls name?
prefer Angus or Fergus as a boys name

TheMurderousGoose · 17/06/2023 22:41

Well...those are two big names.

Ambrose makes me think of a monk in a historical detective novel. Brother Ambrose tipped Brother Benedict from upper level of the church and put hemlock in Brother Egbert's porridge.

I'm not hugely keen on it.

Clementine is nice once you don't mind that people will pronounce it tyne and others teen.

Gardenerboo · 17/06/2023 22:42

Love them all!

Dotcheck · 17/06/2023 22:42

Yeah, Ambrose is a medieval monk- in not a good way

TheMurderousGoose · 17/06/2023 22:42

Clement for a boy (known as Clem) is better than Ambrose.

flagpie · 17/06/2023 22:44

Ambrose Wilson is a clothing retailer

Infusionist · 17/06/2023 22:47

I want to love it, but don’t.

It’s partly the lack of solid nicknames - Amb? Or Brosie?

If you’re into medical monk names (agree with this) I have a secret love for Aloysius.

MrsTwiggy · 17/06/2023 22:49

Love them both - we have very similar tastes in names, it seems Grin

DibbleDooDah · 17/06/2023 22:51

I think of rice pudding with Ambrose (Ambrosia) - sorry.

Girls name I love.

MrsTwiggy · 17/06/2023 22:51

TheMurderousGoose · 17/06/2023 22:42

Clement for a boy (known as Clem) is better than Ambrose.

I love Clement! But Ambrose and Clement are both equally lovely imo

Landndialamrhf · 17/06/2023 22:55

Love your boys name, though id maybe swap one of the names out for something stronger sounding.
love clementine too, but goldie nell feels like a double nn middle name and I’d want at least one of them to be an obviously full name

both full names are quite a lot and indicate a certain level of privilege too, so people will have preconceived expectations of them. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s something to consider.

Soapyspuds · 17/06/2023 23:02

Ambrose is okay. But they will probably be nicknamed 'Custard'

autieawesome · 17/06/2023 23:42

Devon knows how they make it so creamy

continentallentil · 18/06/2023 00:04

Much prefer Augustus to Ambrose. Or Amos maybe. Ambrose makes me think of someone in the 50s, who polishes his car a lot, and goes motoring with his brother Austin.

Clementine is nice enough, but why in holy hell do you want Goldie? Is it after a dog??

mathanxiety · 18/06/2023 01:34

Love the boy name.

Nell isn't nice, imo. I think middle names should be full names, not abbreviations or nicknames. Also, Nell makes me think of "death knell".

saraclara · 18/06/2023 01:44

Yep.

Ambrose....ia rice pudding is exactly what I thought when I read the OP.

Don't do it to him.

PurBal · 18/06/2023 01:54

Love it.

ElizaMulvil · 18/06/2023 02:59

Ambrose Augustus - both awful ( as mentioned above) William at a pinch , if you must.
Clementine Goldie Nell - all grim.
They'll be singing the song to Clementine. Goldie sounds like a budgerigar or possibly a cat/dog
Nell rhymes with hell - just no.

rubydoobydoo · 18/06/2023 03:03

My mum had an uncle called Ambrose - known as Amby.
I always thought it was a great name.

CurlewKate · 18/06/2023 03:42

The more I read Mumsnet, the more I think Jane and Peter are wonderful names.

CurlewKate · 18/06/2023 03:46

Hilariously, there were 20 times more Clementines than Janes born last year....

user1492757084 · 18/06/2023 03:57

In order of preference, inspired from your thread ..

Clementine Ellen
Clementine Helen
Clemency Marigold
Clemency Gabrielle

Augustus William Ambrose

William Augustus
Ambrose William Augustus
William Ambrose

SunnyFog · 18/06/2023 09:12

Children or fictional characters?

Shortbreadwhite · 18/06/2023 09:15

Thank you for your opinions, I did have a chuckle at some of them. I better get the name books back out 😂

I used not to be a fan of Clementine but it has grown on me.
Ambrose I'm not so sure about - I think I prefer Augustus or Clement. Gus is cute as a nickname. Or have you considered Giles?
