We can’t agree on a middle name for Violet!

DD due very soon and we cannot agree on a middle name for her.

Names I like but dad doesn’t:

  • Violet Florence
  • Violet Grace
  • Violet Daisy
  • Violet Olivia
  • Violet Amelia
  • Violet Mabel

Names he likes but I don’t:

  • Violet Ava
  • Violet Arabella
  • Violet Alexandria
  • Violet Mira
  • Violet Frances (I did like this but have gone off it)
  • Violet Sigrid
  • Violet Beatrice
  • Violet Ella
  • Violet Evie

Her surname will begin with “I” so any of the middle names beginning with i that we like sound a bit strange all together

Can anyone suggest something that we might both like?

Awwww. I never had a girl but if I did I would've picked Violet Edie both times I had my DS as I loved it so much. Lovely name and still not that common at all.

Of your chices, I'd discount both Daisy and Olivia because of plant connotations. Violet is a beautiful name but she may turn out not to be a flowery girl/woman.

Which is why I like his "Beatrice". Violet Beatrice is a proper balance of feminine and gravitas; a name for all ages and any career.

Of your lists I love Violet Florence and Beatrice.

You can also opt for 2 middle names and choose one each-we did.

This was the name we had originally agreed on but I don’t know why I’ve gone off it

DD1s middle name is her dads grandmas middle name who died just before she was born and coincidentally May is the middle name of my grandma who passed away recently

I’m not sure if it’s weird to give my DD my own middle name though

Not at all!

I love it when names are passed on. My DD has 1 middle name that is both my mum’s and my Grandma’s. Her other is from DH’s side. I would have given her mine but I hate it so that wasn’t happening but it’s not weird.

I have a Violet - her middle name is Keira. DH picked the middle name.

Just don’t give her a middle name. Violet is a gorgeous name on its own. I gave my first children “family” middle names, my middle son I gave one just because I had with the first two. My daughter has a meaningful middle name but honestly they’re never used other than filling out forms etc.

If I was doing it all again, I wouldn’t bother with middle names.

Violet is such a beautiful name all by itself.
