A names?

I'm expecting a baby girl in July and really like the names Ailsa, April and Anneliese, however I feel there are drawbacks to each so would appreciate some opinions and perspectives in case there's anything I haven't thought of!

Ailsa: love it, but worry it will be mistaken for Elsa. Barely anyone seems to have heard of it here (Dublin) and the few that have say it reminds them of Home and Away 🙄 also, I don't have any Scottish connections so would it be strange to pick this name?
Anneliese: I like it pronounced An-eh-lee-zuh but worried it would mostly be pronounced Annaleece..not sure...also people may have trouble with spelling?
April: seems the most straightforward pronunciation wise and spelling wise, but not sure if I love it as much as the other two. Also, not sure if it would be weird to have an April born in July (but seems cheesy to have an April born in April!)

I don't know why I can't just decide, I wasn't this indecisive for my other daughters 🙈 I think because I thought, oh well, if I don't use this name now I can always use it later! But I feel for this, we need to make the right decision because I wouldn't want two daughters with the same initial...also I have a feeling this will be the last baby! Opinions much appreciated x

I really like Alisa! I know a lovely young lady with that name.
I would pronounce Anneliese as Anna-leece and I think it’s a tough one to spell too!
April in July is ok, if you love the name.

Aoife or Aine are lovely Irish A names.
Loads of great A names out there: Alice, Adeline, Annie, Anastasia, Astrid, Amelie…

PickledScrump · 14/06/2023 22:12

I know one Ailsa, I hadn’t heard it before but does seem to usually get called Elsa.

I absolutely love Annalise, but would say it as Annaleece. I’ve never heard it said any other way tbh and your pronounciation doesn’t seem right to me.

April I’m not a fan of but no particular reason

salamithumbs · 14/06/2023 22:24

Yes that was my worry, that people would say Annaleece! I had a friend who pronounced it An-eh-lee-zuh but she was German, maybe it's pretentious to think I could use that pronunciation in Ireland 😞 oh well!
I do like names like Aoife, Aine, Ailbhe etc but there were lots in my year at school and they've been used in my extended family so they seem less special somehow. Doesn't specifically have to be a name beginning with A though, these were just top of my list!

I love Anneliese but would pronounce it Anna-leece, as I’m sure most people would which would probably become annoying if you specifically wanted a different pronunciation.
I also love the name April and I agree it may be cheesy if baby was born in April anyway!

continentallentil · 15/06/2023 00:40

Just spell it Annalisa like they do in Italy

Ailsa is fine, but Annalisa is nicer

April weird for a July baby yes. Avril you could use.

Adela
Astrid
Aphra
Arran
Aster
Astra
Alicia..

Groutyonehereagain · 15/06/2023 02:08

Alma is lovely and so unusual.

user1492757084 · 15/06/2023 03:51

You could use Annelisa. It is a name.
There are also Alicia, Alissa, Clarissa, Alessia, Alissia.

April and Autumn are sweet.
Adelina, Adele,Adeline, Julia and Julissa you might like.

FangsForTheMemory · 15/06/2023 03:56

Andrina
Althea
Amaryllis
Avril

Mumofgirls2017 · 15/06/2023 04:00

I like Anneliese but probably will be shortened to Anna or Annie so make sure you’re ok with that!

rainbowstardrops · 15/06/2023 04:33

If you want that specific pronunciation then I would spell it Annalisa. It's a lovely name.

Alternatively,

Anais
Alaia
Anya
Amy
Amelie
Autumn

Must admit I immediately thought of Home and Away when I read Ailsa but it's still lovely.

Fleur405 · 15/06/2023 07:59

I like Ailsa and I’m in Scotland where I meet plenty of little Niamhs and Aoifes so if we can use your names, don’t see why you can’t use ours!

Annaliese is lovely but will get mispronounced. Annleece is horrible (sorry). I agree that the better option would be Annalisa though I have a cousin with that name (italian) and even then it gets mispronounced a surprising amount given that it’s very straightforward!

Theoldwoman · 15/06/2023 08:07

One of these is my name and it’s taken until 50 to accept it.

I know a few of each of your names. Plenty called April are born in both April and other months.

My friend spelled her DD Annahlise. Just to be different.

misspollycat · 15/06/2023 09:17

Have you thought about Annalisa? Or Annaliza?
I'm not sure if either would work, as Annalisa could be just a combination of Anna and Lisa, and Annaliza may look made up, but I do like the sound of them.

A few other suggestions...
Alessia
Aurelia
Arielle/ Ariella
Arianell
Ariadne
Adelina
Anastasia
Aniella
Anais
Aloria
Alora
Amara

Apologies. I didn't mean to repeat what other posters had suggested.
I've only just seen their posts.

FayCarew · 15/06/2023 09:39

Ailsa: you love it.

Anneliese: too complicated. Will get misspelt and said as Annalise

April: *it would be weird to have an April born in July (but seems cheesy to have an April born in April!)8

marmaladegranny · 15/06/2023 09:57

Abigail? Nn Abbi if you wish….

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/06/2023 11:32

I like April best as you say its the simplest. Its also really pretty

Ailsa - no idea how to pronounce this and I'm just not a huge fan of girls names ending in an a

Anneliese - I like but would pronounce an-eh-leez. I like the shortening Liesel as well as Annie

I like quite a few A names if you're set on one

Adelaide
Adeline
Aleydis
Angelica

salamithumbs · 15/06/2023 13:12

Thanks everyone for the ideas and thoughts! Spelling it Annelisa or Annalisa definitely seems a better option, as Annaleece seems to be the more common pronunciation in the Uk/Ireland. I do like the nicknames Anna, Annie, Liesl and even Elisa so not worried on that front that it might get shortened! Think I have to sadly concede that Ailsa is too likely to be mixed up with Elsa or misread as Alisa (if it weren't for Frozen I'd have picked Elsa but that ship has sailed).

A pp suggested Alessia, which I really like but for some reason I'd feel weird picking a name so obviously Italian when there's no Italian in our family (DH has an Austrian grandparent so Anneliese didn't seem as 'out of nowhere' even though it's still a bit of a reach). So think it's between Annelisa/Annalisa and April!

Do you mind my asking, did you just not like your name or were there pronunciation/spelling issues? Obviously I don't know which is your name, but my thoughts on Anneliese were that at least if she doesn't like it, she has nickname options which can't really be said for the other two..so maybe Anneliese/Annelisa would be best for this reason!

@rainrainbowstardrops not another home and away connection 🙈 I would definitely use Ailsa if we were in Scotland but I have a terrible feeling that Home and Away is the only association people in Ireland will have with the name!

@salamithumbs , Annalise or Annalisa seem easier. There was an Annalise in Neighbours.
