I thought Lily was a shortening of Elizabeth? I wouldn’t choose them both together and I wouldn’t spell it with two lls.

continentallentil · 04/06/2023 02:15

I like Elizabeth and Margaret.

Lily doesn’t go with Elizabeth though - too many similar sounds (which is why Lily is sometimes a nn for Elizabeth).

They both go with Anne although Anna works better I think.

I’d go with Margaret Anna as it’s less popular than Elizabeth - and Margot, Greta, Maggie, Peggy and Etta are all nice nns

I love Elizabeth and Lily separately but Lily is often used as a nickname for Elizabeth so wouldn't put them together for that reason.

I don't dislike Margaret but I'm not sure it's quite ready for a revival yet. Maybe in another 5 years!

Tg2023 · 04/06/2023 02:28

Lilly isn't short for Elizabeth (lill, liz, lizzy, Beth, bet & Betty are) however I would go Elizabeth Anne or Anne Elizabeth; Margaret Lilly or Lilly Anne. I love Elizabeth & Margaret though just unsure of middle names.

I think Lily is often used as a shortened version of Elizabeth

I know of an Elizabeth who is called Lily by all her family and close friends.

I do prefer Elizabeth out of them both but would probably go Elizabeth Ann.

Alex Drake · 04/06/2023 03:49

You can't have Elizabeth Lilly as a name as she could become Lilly Lilly which is just plain silly (see what I did there).

Elizabeth
Lilly
Anne

Are all perfectly nice names. Margaret is just still a bit old fashioned at the moment, though I love some of the diminutives such as Margo, Margot, Maggie.

mathanxiety · 04/06/2023 04:06

Lily can be a nickname for Elizabeth.

I'd prefer Margaret Lily.

CM283648 · 04/06/2023 04:08

Anne Elizabeth

Are you a Royalist?

salamithumbs · 04/06/2023 12:13

Really dislike Margaret, sorry, though I do like Maggie and Maisie! I'd go for Elizabeth which is lovely and has lots of nickname options, but wouldn't use Lilly as a middle name as it's a lot of Ls. Elizabeth Anne, Elizabeth Hope, Elizabeth Wren or something maybe?

Rapidtango · 04/06/2023 12:16

Individually all lovely names. Together, I like Elizabeth Ann.

Frogmila · 04/06/2023 12:19

Margaret Anne or Lily (1 'l'), I really like Margaret/ Maggie/ Peggy.

Gazumper · 04/06/2023 12:19

One of these names is actually my middle name and I dislike it very much. Think about your child having to live with such staid names OP!

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/06/2023 12:20

Lily is a 'nickname' for Elizabeth, so it's a bit naff as a combination. The Lilly spelling looks wrong.
I don't like Anne as a middle name; it seems very 1960s when every Sally was a Sally Anne and every Sarah Jane.

Margaret Lily is nice, or how about Elizabeth Margaret?

TheHandbag · 04/06/2023 12:22

I prefer Anna Marguerite but either of your combinations work as they're classic names.

Zwicky · 04/06/2023 12:26

Don’t have Lilly with Elizabeth. It’s practically a tongue twister and too much the same name, especially if she ends up as a Lizzie. Margaret Anne is two plain names together. Margot Anne, Maggie Anne, Margaret Rose sound better imo.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 04/06/2023 12:49

I love Elizabeth Ann

ourflagmeansdeath · 04/06/2023 12:50

I like Elizabeth, Lily and Anne but not Margaret and not the spelling of Lilly. I don't really like Elizabeth Lilly together though, I'd prefer Elizabeth Anne which is nice. But Elizabeth Lilly if that is the only possible combo, preferrably spelled as Lily.

Efacsen · 04/06/2023 13:15

Elizabeth Anne is the best combination

Bbq1 · 04/06/2023 13:22

Margaret Anne is lovely

Bbq1 · 04/06/2023 13:24

Anne is very unusual now and pretty.

cptartapp · 04/06/2023 13:27

Elizabeth Ann

powerpufff · 04/06/2023 19:52

Margaret is a no
I somehow like Lily Anne

Pemba · 06/06/2023 06:57

I agree with a lot of pps - Elizabeth Anne! Flows nicely and so classic.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 06/06/2023 06:59

CN I go for Elizabeth Anne too but only as long as you call her Betsy Wink
