Opinions on Calvin

I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with our baby boy. I have realised that picking boys names is much tricker than picking girls names. One name that we quite like is Calvin. What is your opinion on it?

Obviously name will be a surprise to friends and family so keen to get some other opinions.

We want something different but not super unusual.

I have a family member with the names and he's nearly 40. I hear it now and still think it's fresh and nice. Love it!

Seems a bit 1960s.
It's a bit too linked to religion, like Wesley and Luther.

Hate it. But I am still traumatised by history a level and the protestant reformation. Maybe don't give much weight to my opinion.

Any religious link was lost on me as I know very little about Protestantism. I guess the question is whether ‘Calvinism’ is really something that the majority of people care about or even know about. Perhaps only a minority would even get this?

It seems like every boys name has some sort of issue which is why we have struggled to pick one!

For the vast population the religious link wouldn't even be a thing. My first thought of someone with the name was Calvin Harris (the DJ/musician). Lovely name.

Love it and it was in our list 😍 mainly because I love Cal. Didn’t use it because wanted to save Mallory for a girl (now have a girl not called Mallory!) and cal & mal was too much, AND Calvin felt a bit American for us (same with Mallory!). But I do love it.
