DisgustedOfTidmouth · 02/06/2023 13:13

Pied piper of Hamlin

eddiemairswife · 02/06/2023 13:14

Pied piper of Hamlin

Yes

And therefore No

Aquamarine1029 · 02/06/2023 13:16

Hate it. The nickname of Ham is horrible and people definitely will call him that.

Bobbybobbins · 02/06/2023 13:16

Not for me!

How about Hamish? Henry?

cuckyplunt · 02/06/2023 13:17

There are hundreds of lovely names, you do not need to make one up!

Windbeneathmybingowings · 02/06/2023 13:19

By famous Hanover city!

RATS! They killed the dogs and ate the cats!

One of many poems we were forced to learn by heart. I can’t hear the word Hamlin without repeating the poem in my mind.

useitorlose · 02/06/2023 13:21

Wasn't there an actor called Harry Hamlin?

WheelsUp · 02/06/2023 13:22

The obvious nickname is Ham and Hamm is the pig in Toy Story. Not a bad character per se but pigs are often used as derogatory names.

I used to have an American manager called Ham - his was short for Hambleton so as I was living in that part of North Yorkshire I was able to present him with a customised bin bag. <irrelevant>

Hamlin - nope. As pp have said, will remind people of the pied piper of Hamelin - akin to naming your kid 'Childcatcher' only with added rats.

What do you like, OP?

Windbeneathmybingowings · 02/06/2023 13:28

Lots of other names that are similar.

Kremlin
Dublin
Penicillin
Insulin

GCWorkNightmare · 02/06/2023 13:30

It’s Hamelin in the pied piper but I doubt if use the Hamlin spelling either to be honest.

Outdamnspot23 · 02/06/2023 13:36

Hamlin has a nice sound but unfortunately is going to remind most people of mass kidnapping.

or Hamlet.

or ham.

none of which are very nice associations for a child.

theres a Scottish legend of Tam Lin or Tamlin. How about that?

Calmondeck · 02/06/2023 13:37

🤣 genuinely laughing out loud at these reactions.

Say no more, back to the drawing board.

That was my surname before I got married! So obviously I like the name 😁

Hamilton might be okay as a middle name should it also have a family connection.

iwishicouldb · 03/06/2023 15:11

Hamlin Hamlin McGill if you're going to call him Hamlin
