I think there's some lovely names on those lists. Here are the ones I prefer...

Boys:

Oliver
Luca
Maximilian
Arnie
Jacob (but don't like Jake!)
Finley (prefer with an A)
Zachary

Girls:
Ivy
Emilia
Sienna
Phoebe
Zara
Lucy
Elodie
Pippa
Alexandra
Amelie
Niamh
Cora

Only removed a couple from the girls' list. Congratulations! And I agree with a pp that there'll always be names that some people hate so choose the name that you love best, not us!

orchidsrock · 31/05/2023 19:29

My faves are Harvey and Rex and Lyra, Elodie and Cora (although prefer Cara).

ActDottie · 31/05/2023 19:31

Thanks all, I think Cora is my favourite for a girl but was worried it was too different but don’t think it is :)

Boys names I’m completely stumped on! There are names I like but don’t love.

My husband said the same about Harvey! Tbh it’s probably off the list cuz he doesn’t like it enough.

OP posts:
ActDottie · 31/05/2023 19:37

Just told my husband that Cora was my favourite then he ruined it by saying that it rhymes with our dogs name! (Dora!) can’t believe I didn’t think of it

Oh what a shame!
Yeah, it wouldn't be good to rhyme with the dog.
Choosing a name is so hard!

ourflagmeansdeath · 31/05/2023 20:43

Hector - Not for me
Harvey - Seems more like a surname
Rex - Is your child a dinasour??
Archie - It's okay, will get a lot of royal connotations
Oliver - It's fine but quite popular now and a bit plain
Luca - Lovely name
Maximilian - I love Max but not so much this as it's too long

Arnie - I actually quite like it
Jacob - Lovely
Finley - It's alright
Zachary - Quite nice

Girls:
Ivy - Gorgeous
Emilia - I like it but it'd get misspelt a ton and it's a bit plain
Sienna - I think it's nice enough
Phoebe - Lovely
Zara - I've never liked this makes me think of a shop
Lucy - Yes, this is so pretty
Lyra - Beautiful, one of my fav girls names
Elodie - Beautiful too
Pippa - This is so pretty
Alexandra - It's quite nice
Amelie - I love this
Niamh - Pretty too
Verity - It's nice but I'm not one for virtue names
Cora - Apples. Also don't do it considering your dog is Dora lol

Fav boy name would be Luca and I like Jacob+Zachary too. I love most of your girls names but favourite would be Lyra and then I adore Ivy, Phoebe, Lucy, Elodie and Pippa too.

amoretti · 31/05/2023 21:03

Oliver Luca or vv

WhoSaidWhat123 · 31/05/2023 21:08

Firstly, congratulations 😊

Boys:
Hector - not keen, not sure why!
Harvey - ok
Rex - like it but reminding me of Toy Story dinosaur!
Archie - cute.

Luca - love it.
Maximilian - not too keen.
Arnie - Arnold Schwarz.. and so on!

Shinytaps · 31/05/2023 21:17

I like all of those names.

I have two boys whose names are on your list!

One of the girls names is my daughter's middle name!

unicornjewels · 31/05/2023 21:17

Actually really like all the girl names. I have a Zara so I'm biased on that one but there are no others in her school/clubs so quite unique.
Boys - I like the last 4 in your list.

NuffSaidSam · 31/05/2023 21:41

I like Oliver, Luca and Finley, but they're all massively overused, really popular.

Not keen on Maximilian, Rex or Zachary. I just don't like the sound and they're all a bit doggy.

Archie is dull and overused.

Arnie as in Schwarzenegger? Definitely no.

I like Hector and Harvey and neither are massively popular.

Jacob would be my choice. Lovely.

Mumofgirls2017 · 31/05/2023 22:32

Rex, Jacob and zachary

ivy, Cora and lyra

BurbageBrook · 01/06/2023 11:16

Fave boys name from your list: Zachary. Girl: Sienna.

Coronationstation · 01/06/2023 13:13

Hector - i really like but not sure i'd have the confidence to use it
Harvey - truly awful
Rex - only if you're naming a dog
Archie - too over-done a few years ago
Oliver - it's a sound name but popular
Luca - ok but merges into all the Lucas / Lewis / Louie type names
Maximilian - ok
Arnie - awful
Jacob - ok
Finley - nice but popular
Zachary - nice

Ivy - nice but feels very "of the moment" in terms of name trends
Emilia - ok
Sienna - not a fan
Phoebe - nice
Zara - nice
Lucy - nice
Lyra - awful
Elodie - awful
Pippa - ok
Alexandra - ok
Amelie - ok
Niamh - nice
Verity - nice
Cora - nice

Sojo88 · 01/06/2023 17:10

OP, if you really like the name Cora then I wouldn't be put off because your dog's name sounds similar. With the greatest of respect to your dog, Cora will be around a lot longer than the dog will - and how often are you going to be using their names in the same sentence anyway?

You can find potential issues with almost any name, but if you've found one that you really like I wouldn't be put off that easily. Just a thought Smile

Moveoverdarlin · 01/06/2023 17:13

I love Lucy and Zara. I loathe Ivy, reminds me of Ivy Tisley from Corrie or a little old lady in a care home.

Twazique · 01/06/2023 17:49

How about Adelaide, Dorothea, Douglas or Harris?
