Olive Edith?

About to TTC baby number 2. Pretty set on a boys name, and quite like Olive for a girl (have another DD with an oldie style name)

Thoughts on Olive Edith? Or any other old fashioned suggestions? I like two syllable middle names (not sure why!)

its a bit of a tongue twister!

olive amelia
olive Charlotte
olive Margot
olive Beatrix
olive stephanie

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/05/2023 20:55

I like it!

KirstenBlest · 28/05/2023 20:56

The middle name being more than one syllable is good. I find the one-syllable ones sound like a filler middle name.
I'm not keen on Olive or Edith but maybe that's an age thing

tattygrl · 28/05/2023 22:00

I actually love it! It's a very unusual combo, don't think I've ever come across it before. It is ever so slightly clunky but not too much, and I think that's its charm (to me).

continentallentil · 28/05/2023 22:30

I only like olive in a salad… it’s an old lady step too far for me

Edith is lovely though

Olwen?
Jocelyn
Frances
Thora
Oona
Ida
Constance..

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2023 22:38

I like both names very much, but not together. There's something just a bit too clunky that I don't like.

I think choose one as a first name, then a longer name for a middle name. I love a pp's suggestion of Constance, gorgeous name:

Olive Constance
Edith Constance

Olive Catherine
Edith Catherine

Olive Elizabeth
Edith Elizabeth

Olive Josephine
Edith Josephine

teachermummyme · 28/05/2023 22:47

I like both names. For me, though, I always feel that a middle name sounds best if it's a different number of syllables than the first - that's just my opinion though! So I'd either go for a one or three-syllable name.

Shoemadlady · 28/05/2023 22:52

Love them both. We have an Eadie in our circle.Someone we know has a Cybil which is adorable x we also know a Pearl ❤️❤️

Floralnomad · 28/05/2023 22:55

I prefer Edith to Olive . I just don’t get the appeal of Olive at all . I don’t think Olive Edith flows at all well

Ihatethenewlook · 28/05/2023 22:57

I don’t think they go together at all, sorry.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 28/05/2023 22:58

I like it

TeeNoG · 28/05/2023 23:12

I like it! If my DS had been a DD we had chosen Olive Elspeth.

user1492757084 · 29/05/2023 05:57

Edith is too strict with Olive, I feel.
I would choose a more animated name..
Olive Kitty
Olive Nancy
Olive Allegra
Olive Matilda
Olive Lila
Olive Kirsten
Olive Tina
Edith Olivia

RosaSkye · 29/05/2023 06:40

I think Edith Olive flows better, but I do like Olive as a first

Margot
Maeve
Iris
Celeste
Violet
Enid

nicedaydoreen · 29/05/2023 08:08

The thing about Olive Edith is that both names are from the same style/age so if this goes out of fashion (again) or she doesn't like it the options are limited. Both are very in fashion at the moment btw
Olive Elizabeth has more possibilities for example.
I had a great aunt olive and I remember as a child thinking it was an ugly name reminds me of a dirty green and small black/green things. So perhaps I'm bias here.

pilates · 29/05/2023 08:11

It doesn’t flow well.

I prefer Edith and a longer middle name.

Edith Catherine
Edith Constance

ourflagmeansdeath · 29/05/2023 14:05

I love Edith, not keen at all on Olive, maybe because I hate olives! Olive Edith does flow to me though depending on what your surname is.

Crunchymum · 29/05/2023 15:17

I like them both in their own right but together they just don't flow.

Agree with a PP who said about middle name having different number of syllables to first name. It just works better, IMO.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 29/05/2023 15:31

I don’t think they go together unfortunately.

Yummyyummyinmytummy · 29/05/2023 21:40

Olive is quite common, Olivia is terribly common, but still i know a couple of little Olives. Are you happy with that? Would you mind her being Olive A or Olive B?

ekm21 · 30/05/2023 22:02

Thanks everyone. I’m sure set on Olive as it has a family connection, middle name I’m open to, thanks for your suggestions and thoughts

I really like Olive - it’s just the middle name doesn’t sound right to me.
