Name pondering…

My husband and I just found out we're expecting. It’s early days but I have a night to myself and find myself pondering names.

We already decided that we love the name Ezra for a boy.

For a girl we liked Maya but I feel maybe it's too common now (I'm a teacher and we have one class with three spelled: Maya, Maia and Mayah). My husband likes Eden, which I also like, but we live outside of the U.K in a country where I have heard it mispronounced as Eh-den.

Here are the names that I like that he's said no to: Shiloh, Amalia, Amari.

I thought Amaya could be a good compromise? Or if anybody has any ideas of some interesting names we might like?

If you live outside the UK, do you plan to stay there? If so, you might want to look at names that work well in whatever the local language/dialect/accent is.

Ezra is really beautiful for a boy. Maya is pretty but it is defo popular and Eden is miles better, it is honestly so pretty. If you can get by the pronunciation thing where you live it could work. Maya is gorgeous too, I slightly prefer Eden but love Amaya too.The names he's said No to I don't like lol so you're not losing
anything there. Congratulations by the way!

I love the name Amaya. One of my favourites. Eden is lovely too.

Not keen on Amaya. Maya is a bit meh. The Ah-ah-ah is a bit repetitive
It's a bit too similar to Anaya, and both are asian names where I live

Ezra is so lovely, you could always use Esra for a girl?

Amaya is beautiful also. I love PP suggestion of Anoushka.

Amdone123 · 28/05/2023 19:57

I love Esra. We have an Esra ( girl) and an Aslan (boy).
Love Eden. I taught an Ayla - love that spelling.

A lot depends on where you live - Spain, Germany, Canada, Middle East...

Pronunciation of your child's name could vary a lot depending on the local language, and different names have different connotations in different societies.

I love Amalia. A bit different in the UK but widely cross-cultural name, used from Italy to Scandinavia.

Ah I realise that this post is over a year ago so I'm sure you got a lovely name by now.
