I have an Ezra already, which was a lot less common at the time.

Trying to find a unique name for a boy and girl.

Currently like:

Girls:

Kalani
Arazo
Melody
Mali
Amila

Boys:

Kobe
Rio
Keanu

Any opinions or suggestions would be great!

Can I ask how you would pronounce Mali?

From your list I like Mali for a boy or a girl.

ourflagmeansdeath · 25/05/2023 19:01

Ezra is lovely by the way.

Kalani - It's okay, not my fav
Arazo - No this doesn't even seem like a name
Melody - Gorgeous, I love it
Mali - It's quite pretty
Amila - It sounds too similar to a bunch of other names

Kobe - It's alright, reminds me of the basketballer
Rio - This is lovely
Keanu - I actually surprisingly like this

For girls names either Melody or Mali (I personally prefer Melody but Mali for uniqueness as you want) and my favourite boy name would be Rio.

Bread

otherwayup · 25/05/2023 19:05

Well apart from Melody that list reads like a hell hole of names to saddle another human with.

Do you really want to subject you child to a life time of embarrassment/exasperation at having to repeat, spell or explain their name to everyone they meet.
I appreciate you're desperate to be different but please spare your child!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 25/05/2023 19:06

Kalani - makes me think of GoT
Arazo - quite like but similar to a brand of coffee
Melody - been around for years
Mali - prefer the traditional spelling
Amila - makes me think of those tiny white spots you can get

Boys:

Kobe - One Kinobe
Rio - Ferdinand
Keanu - long standing Eastenders character.

Zuve · 25/05/2023 19:06

I like Ena for a girl and zac for a boy

otherwayup · 25/05/2023 19:07

Ok, Keanu might be ok but everyone will presume you had a massive crush on the actor

MargotBamborough · 25/05/2023 19:07

Mali is the name of a country in Africa.

It's a bit of an odd list, if I'm honest OP. The thing with unique names is that there is generally a reason why no one else is using them.

Ezra has become more popular because it is a nice name. I would go for something along the same lines because if your next child has a very unusual name that they don't like, they might resent you for giving their sibling a more popular name.

Babdoc · 25/05/2023 19:08

You can’t have a “very” unique name, OP. It’s either unique or it isn’t.
Unique means “the only one of its kind” - it’s an absolute, not relative, term.

Bluestoat · 25/05/2023 19:11

How about Gary? I read no one is calling their kids Gary these days! They’d be the only one- especially if they’re a girl.

StrawberryWasp · 25/05/2023 19:11

Melody is lovely. It's a proper name but rarely used.
Also how about Dilys? I've always thought this is cute and pretty but rarely used.

I love Rio.

Also how about Rocco?

FfeminyddCymraeg · 25/05/2023 19:11

Balonz 😀

StrawberryWasp · 25/05/2023 19:12

Or Eben for a boy?

I once knew an American called Eben. Short for Ebenezer.

Gary for a girl is genius.

I've worked in education for over 30 years and can confirm I've never met a female Gary 😂

blackberryginandtonic · 25/05/2023 19:31

Murphy?

maryberryslayers · 25/05/2023 19:39

Kalani - Sounds like Klarna
Arazo - Awful and sounds made up
Melody - Lovley
Mali - Just call her Marley, no need for a silly spelling. Marlow is an alternative.
Amila - looks like you can't spell Amelia. Mila would be better but I prefer Lyla.

Boys:

Kobe - Ok but common
Rio - Awful and common
Keanu - Awful and very well known for obvious reasons.

None of them are particularly 'unique' without sounding made up.
