Simone?

A good friend of mine has a little girl due in August, and after staying up very late last night drinking mocktails and listening to records we decided the best thing to do would be to name her Simone (after Nina).

We both realised we'd not come across anyone named Simone in a really long time – is it very unpopular or are we just not meeting the right people?! 😊

I love the name Simone.

DustyLee123 · 14/05/2023 21:35

I wanted to use it for my DD but wasn’t allowed. I love it.

travelingtortoise · 14/05/2023 21:36

We love it too!

Is it as uncommon as it seems to us, though? Or are there still Simones floating about and we just haven't encountered them?

I don’t think I’ve ever met one. I remember thinking it was a nice name when there was a character called it in Heroes

toastofthetown · 14/05/2023 21:43

Simone is dated and unpleasant sounding to me. I don't like the cadence and the 'moan' sound probably adds to my dislike of it. It's certainly uncommon (here's the Dark Greener data) and it would sound distinct in a modern classroom. There are many worse people to share a name with than Simone Biles though.

im French and it was my great grandmothers name. She was born in 1914. It’s very very old name. It would be funny on a baby. Like meeting a toddler called Gladys or Doris or something.

fairycupcakes · 14/05/2023 21:49

It’s pretty, I’ve never met one but I have met a Simona which is also quite nice :)

NoraLuka · 14/05/2023 21:50

I think it’s pretty, but the only one I ever met was my grandmother’s auntie, probably born around 1900!

mauvish · 14/05/2023 22:35

It used to be not that uncommon - 10502 babies registered as Simone in England and Wales between 1900 - 1990* *according to freeBMD.com

I've met a handful. Sometimes they've been SiMONE and sometime, See-MON.

User6761 · 14/05/2023 23:08

I know a 2 year old Simona, never met a Simone of any age.

Rockmehardplace · 14/05/2023 23:28

i know two Simone’s.

Both of whom have daughters called Thea, which I’ve always found as weird coincidence, as only ever known 2 Simones and 2 Theas.

LilyLemonade · 14/05/2023 23:30

Very pretty name. I also like Simona. Start a comeback!

SemperIdem · 14/05/2023 23:30

I’ve only ever met one, she was a few years older than me so would be late 30’s now.

DannyZukosSmile · 14/05/2023 23:31

No. Just NO.

RestingMurderousFace · 14/05/2023 23:34

I knew one. She was a rough girl in my year at school in the 80s.

Bumcake · 14/05/2023 23:36

I work with one, she’s cool. I would guess she’s about mid-30s.

LucyLastik · 14/05/2023 23:37

My 13yo DD has Simone as her middle name

SwedishEdith · 14/05/2023 23:37

Only sounds nice in French, I think.

SargentSagittarius · 14/05/2023 23:39

I really love this name. And don’t mess around with it, adding As on the end - just Simone.

I have two friends with friends called Simone, and they’re both of a type - dark-haired (it’s definitely a raven-haired field’s name), attractive, effortlessly cool, insouciant, dance-to-the-beat-of-their-own-drum types.

SargentSagittarius · 14/05/2023 23:40

Raven-haired girls’ name!

mumonherphone · 14/05/2023 23:41

I went to school with one. I'm 29, never met another

SilentParrot · 14/05/2023 23:47

I think of it as being a 1970s/80s name but I do really like it.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 14/05/2023 23:53

Don't think I've ever met one butI like it

RunThroughTheJungle · 14/05/2023 23:55

I only know one, she'll be mid 50's now but by far one of the most beautiful and sophisticated women I know.

WideOpenSpaces · 15/05/2023 01:06

Love it. Simone and Nina are both great names
