I’ve seen it suggested here but there doesn’t seem to be a thread on this name. What do people think about it?

I’m not sure if it’s too out there for me but I recently started to like it. I see it’s growing in popularity but still outside top 100. Not that that bothers me much.

It's a lot to live up to and sounds a bit too much like Anthea are my first thoughts.

Although my son had a friend at primary school called Minerva which did work for her.

Love the name Athena but my first thought on hearing it is of the poster shop and that picture of the knickerless tennis player.

Beautiful

JamSandle · 08/05/2023 22:06

Beautiful, classic and strong.

Athena is nice enough.
Do you like Minerva?

I like it, it’s on my list but have a suspicion DH is going to veto it.

Just makes me think of the classic posters:

  • topless man holding baby
-kitten dangling on a washing line
  • tennis player's bum

Me too. But the bare chested man in jeans with a chick (the animal version) on his arm. Takes me straight back to the 1980s.

Athena isn't the worst name I've heard on MN, sounds ok.

SkankingWombat · 09/05/2023 07:45

It's a lovely name, but a lot to live up to. I know an Adonis, and I always feel a bit sorry for the expectations the name puts on him.

SallyWD · 09/05/2023 08:35

I quite like it. A similar bane I really love is Althea.

RegalWeasel · 09/05/2023 08:42

It's a lovely name.

Snugglemonkey · 09/05/2023 08:59

I like it. There used to be one of my year. She was lovely.

Rachel0405 · 09/05/2023 09:01

I love it!

A bit long with no obvious shortening.
There are lots of Theos and Theas. and Thea and Athena are a bit similar.
Will get read as Anthea.
A lot to live up to.

Otherwise OK.
