What are your thoughts on the names Eugene and Eugenie? Obviously not for siblings

Boy or girl? Eugenie for a girl makes me think of the princess royal Sonia very topical right now.

hiredandsqueak · 08/05/2023 19:38

Eugene makes me think of the geek in Grease.

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 08/05/2023 19:39

I think they're both ugly names

GoodChat · 08/05/2023 19:39

Eugenie is ok, Eugene makes me think of a nerd too

almostoverthehill · 08/05/2023 19:39

Nope

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 08/05/2023 19:39

Eugene is an old man name to me. Eugenie is lovely.

TeenDivided · 08/05/2023 19:42

Eugene makes me think of the 'nerd' from Grease. Eugenie makes me think of the princess. Not over keen on either tbh.

WhisperingAutistic · 08/05/2023 19:51

I really don't like either of them, sorry

Same here.
I wouldn't lumber a child with either, tbh

ejbaxa · 08/05/2023 19:54

Eugene makes me think of the guy from american pie (very funny)
Eugenie makes me think of the princess

Neither are particularly common so I'd probably avoid them for that reason.

LaVitesse2022 · 08/05/2023 19:58

I don't like them. They sound too much like eugenics 😬

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/05/2023 19:59

Don’t like either. Eugene does seem to be used for nerds in US shows so that’s how I see it. It’s not a nice sound.

DramaAlpaca · 08/05/2023 20:03

Horrid, both of them.

caringcarer · 08/05/2023 20:07

I don't mind either of them. Not common so you won't have 4 of them in one class. I have a common name 4 girls with.tje same name in my school class and two of us had the same middle name too. We were referred to by our 2 initials all through school.

VirginiaQ · 08/05/2023 20:14

Hate both. Makes me think of eugenics so not a a positive association and just sound ugly.

grishaverse · 08/05/2023 20:38

Eugene is awful and Eugenie is slightly better but it just looks really ugly when written down and it's not the best name either way. Also reminds me of the princess

WaxingGibbon · 08/05/2023 20:40

Agree with pp they're both ugly names

fairycupcakes · 08/05/2023 22:06

Eugenie is lovely if pronounced the way Princess Eugenie’s name is and not like Eugene with a y. I have always wondered why the name isn’t popular to be honest and always wonder how the name Beatrice took off yet Eugenie didn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ And if you name a baby Beatrice people don’t think you’ve named her after the Princess but if you were to name a baby Eugenie they would

This

timetorefresh · 08/05/2023 22:38

Horrible sorry

Daffodilwoman · 08/05/2023 22:41

I agree with others.
Eugene= nerd
Eugenie=Princess.

PickledScrump · 08/05/2023 22:54

Eugene is your stereotypical nerd name from a us show. So not great
Eugenie is even worse

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2023 01:02

Quite like Eugenie, quite posh, obvs

Eugene would just make me think of something like a depressed uncle character in movies like Gilbert Grape.

Strange that they are so different

yarikq · 09/05/2023 12:13

Eugene makes me think of somebody who's about 80. I've never heard of a young one. Maybe it will make a comeback at some point, but I don't think it's quite there yet.

Eugenie makes me think of the princess and the multiple pronunciations of her name. E.g. the Royal Family say it something like you-zhuh-nee (I think?) but most of the public will read it phonetically as "You Genie".

I wouldn't choose either of these names personally but it's your decision.

90stalgia · 09/05/2023 12:21

Eugenie associated strongly with the Princess for me.
