Put my foot in it…🙈

Have you ever completely put your foot in it regarding a chosen baby name?

A couple of years ago, a little boy in my nursery class got a new baby brother. For the first week he didn’t have a name, they just couldn’t decide. On the Friday I asked the little boy what he wanted to call his brother. He answered “Mario, Luigi or Axel”
When mum came to pick him up, we were chatting. I told her what her son had said regarding baby names. Assuming ‘Axel’ was also part of Super Mario, I then said “I don’t know which is worse!”
Her face fell as she told me they had registered the baby that afternoon, and called him Axel. There was nothing I could say.

But it’s a perfectly ordinary name in Scandinavian countries, Germany and France, and not wildly unusual in the UK. I would have thought someone who worked in a nursery would be used to a variety of children’s names, unless you work at Little Englanders R US.

What is it with Irish posters berating English posters like this these days? So many nasty, goading 'Little England' insults over the dumbest shit. It's a lighthearted thread about putting your foot in it. And it absolutely is an unusual name in the UK.

I can remember a friend of mine saying she was going to call her unborn daughter Lydia and a mutual friend exclaimed "Lydia chlamydia". And that was the end of that.

The manager of our DC's creche said "oh Little Pony told us you were going to call the new baby X but he's obviously just made up a name"
I said "no he's right, that's the name we've chosen "
It's an extremely uncommon name here - probably unheard of - but common in the country the name comes from
She said "oh right" and I thought it was slightly amusing and wasn't offended. Don't worry too much OP
