For girls:

I like Alana/Alannah, really not sure which of the various spellings is best.
Anaïs, but it will inevitably be mispronounced/misspelled.
Jilly
Brontë
Taylor
Marie (feels quite dated though)

For boys:
Ralph
I really like Raphael but I'm not Spanish/French
Kian
Christopher
Cody (I know people will say it's American)

I love anais (can't do it fancy like you 🤣) and I know one.
It's always pronounced fine too.

Looooop · 02/05/2023 20:43

Haha 😅
I'm glad to hear you like it.
I also like Katie/Kate, but maybe that's dated too?

How do you pronounce it?

An-eye-ees? Or some people incorrectly pronounce it Annay.

PickledScrump · 02/05/2023 20:49

I know of a few Anais I think it’s beautiful. All our pronounced as Ah-nay. Never heard it said any other way tbh. No one has any issues with saying it.

I agree Marie sounds a bit dated, but I think Maria is a classic.

Ralph is a great boys name.

im not a fan of the others on the list

Threebeanburrito · 02/05/2023 21:09

I would choose Alana or Ralph

Anais is pronounced 'ah nigh eece' in France. I think a nay is an English butchering of a French name.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/05/2023 21:43

Brontë; Christopher or ralph

fairycupcakes · 02/05/2023 21:46

You have quite a mix of names you like!

I think Anaïs is really pretty if you’re going to pronounce it properly.

Alana/Alannah - Alana is probably the better spelling but I can’t get past Lana being anal backwards and sticking an A on it doesn’t make me see it any less

Jilly - This is actually quite sweet!! It would be refreshing.

Brontë - I like this

Taylor - Feels quite American but not a bad name there are just better on your list!

Marie - Yeah I agree, quite dated but as a PP said Maria is lovely.

Ralph - I quite like Ralph as a stand-alone name, I don’t think it will date.

Kian - Not keen

Christopher - I really like this. Very classic and a few nickname options

Cody - You’re right, quite American like Taylor but nothing wrong with that if that’s what you like :)

Kate is lovely!

KnickerlessParsons · 02/05/2023 21:47

"Annay" is just awful.

Anaïs is lovely.

sandrene · 02/05/2023 21:57

Absolutely love the name Anaïs (pronounced in the proper French way, not Annay). It's so classy and beautiful and sophisticated and interesting.

I think Raphael works perfectly fine even if you're not French or Spanish. Lovely name. I also love Kian.

Don't really like the others.

Ikeameatballs · 02/05/2023 22:00

Anais and Christopher

LizzieBet14 · 02/05/2023 22:08

Alannah is beautiful (& Kate would make a lovely middle name too!)
Not keen on any of the boys names sorry.

Snugglemonkey · 02/05/2023 22:17

I love Alannah.

I would not go with Anaïs because of the pronunciation issue. Hearing Anay constantly would drive me mad.

Jilly is sweet and a bit different, love it.

Brontë and Taylor, no

Maria is nicer than Marie.

Ralph like Rafe? I like it. I like Raphael too.

I hate K names for C names, I would use Cian or avoid.

Cody is too American for me

I really love Christopher, Kit.

SkaneTos · 02/05/2023 22:26

Nice names, some of them quite different from each other!

Every Marie I know are in the age between 35 and 65, so I think it would be really cute with a baby named Marie! And it is of course a very classical name!

Jilly is a very cute name too.

Looooop · 02/05/2023 22:29

Thanks everyone! Did wonder if Jilly would be too much like Jilly Cooper

yikesanotherbooboo · 02/05/2023 22:35

Alannah is pretty
Anais is nice but I didn't realise that people might pronounce it Annay which would really grate ... so no.
Jilly is sweet for Gillian and should be coming back.
No to Brontë ( Brontosaurus) or Taylor ( unattractive unless used as a Surname).
I think of Marie as a name for someone of my age ( 61) with strong catholic connotations , that may just be me. I much prefer Mary which is a great favourite of mine and Maria to a lesser extent.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/05/2023 23:39

Maria or Raphael

Alana/Alannah - it’s ok
Anaïs - it just gets butchered in English
Jilly - it’s ok
Brontë - um no, low rent
Taylor - it’s a bit 80s American time warp
Marie (feels quite dated though) - it is but Maria is a great classic

For boys:
Ralph -there’s nothing wrong with it but it just sounds like a dog barking to me
Raphael - you don’t need to be French or Spanish , it’s quite popular
Kian - see Brontë
Christopher - ok
Cody - see Taylor

user1492757084 · 03/05/2023 02:56

My faves from your ideas, in order of preference ...
Alanna - Uh-LANN-uh
Bronte
Kate

Christopher
Ralph
Raphael

LockInAtTheFeathers · 03/05/2023 08:31

@Looooop How would you like Alannah/Alana to be pronounced? I think that influences the spelling you should go for. To me, Alannah reads as Al-ANN-ah (to rhyme with Hannah) whereas Alana would be more likely to be Al-ah-na (though I would be unsure and check).

sunshineandmango · 03/05/2023 08:56

Love Ralph, Christopher and Jilly! Marie also nice. Anais is beautiful written down but I wouldn’t use it as the pronunciation issues would drive me mad.

DuchessOfSausage · 03/05/2023 11:26

Alana/Alannah - I'd say Alana as Alan-a
Anaïs - mispronounced/misspelled. Too long.
Jilly - Jill is lovely
Brontë - too linked to the authors
Taylor - surname/too american
Marie - nice
Katie - nice, Kate/Katherine nice

For boys:
Ralph - Raif or Ralf?
I really like Raphael but I'm not Spanish/French - too long
Kian - Cian is ok
Christopher - nice
Cody - surname/too american

shadowchancesassy · 03/05/2023 11:32

Alana. I have one so I'm biased lol

Cody.

Congratulations x

shortanddumpy · 03/05/2023 11:39

I like Alana and Kian the best ☺️
