Love this name. 1. What are your thoughts? 2. Could you suggest similar alternatives we may like as it's our only name at the moment and 3. Would you use it with a surname that would make it very alliterative?

Love the name as it is I think it all depends on surname :)

DiscoBeat · 30/04/2023 08:25

I like it, we have an adult friend named Kit. We did consider using it but I'm not keen on names ending in t as some people just won't pronounce it properly, eg 'Kih'

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/04/2023 08:26

It’s short for Christopher.

Tradescantia252 · 30/04/2023 08:29

Wayne Rooney has a Kit. His other children are Kai, Klay and Cass.

DustyLee123 · 30/04/2023 08:30

I like it, and it’s a good stand alone name, no need to be short for anything.

Thatbloomindog · 30/04/2023 08:32

Absolutely love it. It’s short for Christopher obviously. But so much nicer than Chris.
Only issue if people not pronouncing the ‘t’ as a pp said.

I know a young Kip. He is a very sweet young man and everyone lives his name.

caringcarer · 30/04/2023 08:36

My son is called Christopher and we called him Christy when he was little then he preferred Kit as he became a teen.

Haralambus · 30/04/2023 08:36

My daughter is called this- shortened version of her longer name. It suits her!

ShinyShinyShinyBootsOfLeather · 30/04/2023 08:43

I like it and wanted to call DS Christopher nn Kit. DH vetoed as he liked Christopher but not Kit!

Kit Collins
Christopher Collins

Sound fine to me. I quite like alliteration though

Buebananas · 30/04/2023 11:49

Kit is cute as a nickname for Kitty or Kitten 🐈‍⬛

Buebananas · 30/04/2023 11:51

Surely the natural nickname for Christian or Christopher is Chris?!!

Kit just reminds me of 'take your Kit off' or sports Kit etc...

squigglesquirrel · 30/04/2023 11:56

Benedict Cumberbatch has a Kit, so Kit Cumberbatch.

His is short for Christopher though

It’s a vey old shortening so clearly, no, Chris is not the ‘natural’ one??!

RosaSkye · 30/04/2023 12:00

I loved Kit

others that were on my list -

Finn
Herbie
Jasper
Lowen

GracieGracieGracie · 30/04/2023 12:08

LOVE IT. Only DDs here and I'm done, but if I had had a boy Kit would have been 100% my choice.

Buebananas · 30/04/2023 12:19

What I mean with 'natural' shortening for Christopher is the most intuitive one - Chris.

Kit may be old but it has little relation to Christian or Christopher.

I actually know a couple of girls called Kit and Kitty, short for Katherine.

Redlarge · 30/04/2023 12:24

There is a kid i n my boys school called it. Hes a right moaner, always whining and crying and getting on the other kids nerves. He gets called first aid kit.
Kit Harrington seems nice though.

I much prefer kitty

Knowivedonewrong · 30/04/2023 12:27

It's nice. As said above doesn't need to a be shortened name of Christopher. I've a Ben, never Benjamin which I don't like. Just Ben.

salamithumbs · 30/04/2023 12:34

I like it! I'd probably put Christopher on the birth cert so he has a choice but Kit is fine on its own. Think the alliteration will sound good as long as the surname's not Kat!

junebirthdaygirl · 30/04/2023 12:42

I love that name. This may be a generisation but in my experience boys like short names.
Go for it.

salamithumbs · 30/04/2023 12:42

Similar names:
'K' sound: Cian, Callum, Kai, Caleb
Short names: Zach, Finn, Joe, Ted, Jack, Ben, Blake, Dale, Heath, Max, Tom, Jed, Luke, Nick, Seán, Shay, Seth, Saul

Tinytigertail · 30/04/2023 12:44

We have a Kit in our family, it's his full first name, not a nn, it suits him and, although I wasn't sure at first, I really like it.

Whiskeypowers · 30/04/2023 12:45

I love it

FayCarew · 30/04/2023 13:48

OK if short for Christopher.
