What do people think of the name Lena (pronounced Lee-na)?

We both like it and it has some family significance.

Not keen, but if u like it go for it.

emmaliz · 26/04/2023 15:53

I like it, think I might slightly prefer the Lay-na pronunciation

shoopshoopdedoo · 26/04/2023 16:04

Like it

ourflagmeansdeath · 26/04/2023 17:32

I do like it but it would be mispronounced a lot if that bothers you. I know Zara Tindall's daughter is Lena and it's pronounced Lay-na which I much prefer.

Pinkdelight3 · 26/04/2023 17:47

I like it - known a couple of cool lasses called Lena and only ever heard it pronounced as Lee-na.

Tinytigertail · 26/04/2023 17:49

I have a Dutch friend called Lena. Her name is pronounced as Leh-na, which I prefer Lee-na.

SkaneTos · 26/04/2023 18:17

Lena is a pretty name!

StillWantingADog · 26/04/2023 18:20

Prefer ley-na as a pronunciation
I was at uni with a Marilena nn Lena (ley-na)

PickledScrump · 26/04/2023 20:27

I’ve only heard it as Len-a, len as in Lenny. I think it’s pretty. I don’t like leena or layna pronunciation as much

Dreamlight · 26/04/2023 20:30

Mr granny was called Lena, pronounced Leena. I like it!

greyhairnomore · 26/04/2023 20:45

Prefer Leni.

tinselvestsparklepants · 26/04/2023 20:53

It's lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/04/2023 21:01

It’s fine, but there are loads of similar names - lara Luna Leila Lila Leah Lyra Lola - that are popular right now and they do all blur a bit

user1492757084 · 27/04/2023 04:34

I like Lena pronounced as Lay-nuh

Pollywoddles · 27/04/2023 05:09

Surely Lina is Lee-na and Lena is Lay-na?

LaughingLemur · 27/04/2023 05:14

I'd also pronounce Lena as Lay-na as it's the short form of Magdalena.

AutumnNymph · 27/04/2023 05:17

I love it but might go with Leena spelling to prevent misprounlunciations. I much prefer Leena to Lay-na or Len-a

Willmafrockfit · 27/04/2023 05:29

what about Selena?

wrinkleintime · 27/04/2023 05:39

I think it's nice but you'll get a lot of confusion about whether it's pronounced Lee-na or Lay-na.

I'd spell it Leena if you want that pronunciation.

muddlingthrou · 27/04/2023 10:29

This was on our list, but we ended up going with a different name. I still love it!

midsomermurderess · 27/04/2023 11:58

Lena like Lena Zavaroni.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 27/04/2023 13:12

My granny was a Lena (pr. leena). Short for Helena.

Guardian12 · 27/04/2023 14:41

Thanks all.

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake @Dreamlight my grandmother was Helena / Lena too. Now I’m worried it might be an old lady name 😂

I love Lena.
I know a toddler Lena (pronounced Leena)

Dreamlight · 27/04/2023 15:08

I think it's of that era when old lady names are now fashionable again 😁
