Which do you prefer? And which pronunciation of Lucia (Lucy-uh or Loo-chee-uh)?

I love Lucia. I would say it Lu-see-a.

Frankenweenie · 21/04/2023 06:55

Lucia as long as it is pronounced - Loo-See-Ah. Loo-Chi-Ah doesn't sound quite so lovely.

Elspethelf · 21/04/2023 06:56

Lucia, I would pronounce it Lu-chee-uh. I like Naomi but prefer Noemi. Nicknames Chia and Eli are adorable

Elspethelf · 21/04/2023 06:56

Emi *

baddecisions11 · 21/04/2023 06:57

I would automatically assume Lucia is pronounced loo-sha like st Lucia

RobertaTheRotund · 21/04/2023 07:11

Naomi

ShoesoftheWorld · 21/04/2023 07:13

Both lovely. Lucia (Loo-see-ah for me) has the edge.

Exasperatednow · 21/04/2023 07:19

Lucia, pronounce Lu chee a - isn't it an Italian name and therefore the Italian pronunciation.

What do you mean? My Italian neighbour (we live abroad) is named Lucia (pronounced Loo-chee-uh)

Sorry - misunderstood your post. It’s a very common name in both Italy and the Spanish speaking world. While Italians would say Loo-chee-uh, some other countries where it is widely used pronounce it Loo-see-uh

Lucia (loo-chee-ah) 💯

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 21/04/2023 09:53

I prefer Lu-see-a. But as you can see there are several different pronounciations so depends of that bothers you and would probably avoid if there is one that you absolutely hate. That said Naomi has two different pronounciations.

DeflatedAgain · 21/04/2023 09:53

Lucia for sure

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 21/04/2023 10:58

I prefer Naomi as a name but you also have pronunciation issues with that (nay vs nye).

For Lucia I tend to like Lu-chee-a and would assume that pronunciation unless I knew the person in question was Spanish (ironically the only Lucia I've known irl is Spanish and a Lu-see-a, but I still prefer the other way)!

PickledScrump · 21/04/2023 11:11

I’d say loo-see-a. You also have the pronunciation issue with Naomi though. Nay-o-mi vs Nye-o-mi

Lcb123 · 21/04/2023 11:13

I wouldn't use Lucia unless you're happy for the multiple pronunciations to be used, as that will happen. Naomi is lovely but I do think quite religious, I'd assume Christian parents.

Kam610 · 21/04/2023 11:15

I love both, but I like Lucia more. It was one of the names I considered. I pronounce it Loo-see-ah.

KirstenBlest · 21/04/2023 12:11

Of the two, Lucia - but is it Lootch-ee-a, Loo-see-a, Lucy-a or Loosha
Naomi is ok but is it Nah-O-mi, NAH-omi, , Nay-omi or NAY-omi? Some will say it as Nigh-O-mi, which I dislike

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 21/04/2023 12:46

I love Lucia. It was in the running for our DD. We decided against it because of the three different pronunciations though.

ourflagmeansdeath · 21/04/2023 17:31

Lucia

user1492757084 · 22/04/2023 07:14

Both are nice. Lucia is my pick.

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/04/2023 12:41

I probably prefer Lucia pronounced LOO-see-uh, but I’d automatically say it LOO-CHI-uh like most English people, and then there is the American LOO-sha as well..

So I’d go for Naomi, which is very nice, underused, and irritation of correcting the odd person who mispronounces it Nyomi will be much less than all the different ways of saying Lucia.

Mummytobe333 · 26/04/2023 20:59

Love the name Lucia!! Had it on my baby name list but the whole different pronunciations thing put me off. I would pronounce it Loo-see-ah.
We went with Thea.

FotheringtonThomasMinor · 26/04/2023 21:04

I usually say Loosha, as in St Lucia. So you may get that pronunciation as well.

FotheringtonThomasMinor · 26/04/2023 21:05

With Naomi you may get NAomi, naOmi and the odd NYomi.
