So a relative through marriage neice, daughter has named her child Boux. 😳😳😳Yes I know they can call they're child what they want. But there are going to be a lot pronouncing it Box.

How are you supposed to pronounce it? Like chou (bou)?

Poor child. Is it a boy or a girl?

TheInterceptor · 20/04/2023 14:53

Like in Monsters, Inc.?

Seas164 · 20/04/2023 14:54

Noux

HJ40 · 20/04/2023 14:59

Boo?

fairycupcakes · 20/04/2023 15:16

Like the underwear/pj shop Boux Avenue? Where Boux is presumably pronounced Bow?

Omg there's underwear.😳😳😳

SirChenjins · 20/04/2023 15:29

Boo to rhyme with roo (roux)?

One of DD’s ex classmates has just named her son Bobbeigh. I suppose it shows imagination.

Hazelnuttella · 20/04/2023 15:29

Boux Avenue was my first thought too.
I assumed it was pronounced Boo.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 20/04/2023 15:31

Pronounced Bow presumably, like Beau?

Little boy

Whether people like the name or not, I think that offering up the names of family members up for criticism on a public forum is pretty nasty.

Somethingneedstochange78 · 20/04/2023 15:35

Just want to add my name wasn't popular when I was at school. I never met anyone else with the same name until I was in seniors. It's popular now but I wanted to be called Karen.😂😂😂

fairycupcakes · 20/04/2023 15:35

Oh dear just read baby is a little boy aswell. Essentially named after lingerie…. Why on earth didn’t she spell it Beau which is perfectly normal and not trying too hard to be unique and ending up with this connotation 🤦🏼‍♀️

Whichwhatnow · 20/04/2023 15:35

Believe it or not, I know a girl who goes by Boux (pronounced Boo), second name Cifer. So, randomly Lucifer with a B. Oddly I know another girl whose actual name is Boo and that doesn't seem quite so ridiculous 🤔

Nobody with half a brain would think “box”

Itll either be pronounced Bow or Beau I would’ve thought.

Each to their own. Hope your relation isn’t on Mn, quite a nasty thing to start a thread about.

The oux doesn’t give you that ow/eau sound though - it gives an oo sound. So who knows - it could be anything!

Noux

😊😊

Ontopofthesunset · 20/04/2023 15:47

But why would it be pronounced Beau or Bow? It is a French spelling, so presumably would be pronounced like a choux bun or a roux sauce- Boo rather than Shoo of course. Even in English 'ou' isn't usually 'oh - usually 'ow' (south, hound) but sometimes 'aw' (bought, fought). And I definitely think some people would say Box. Not all people are good at reading, or understanding different phonic rules, particularly those derived from different languages.

Howtohideasausage · 20/04/2023 15:52

I know a Roux. Seems like anything goes.

Geneticsbunny · 20/04/2023 15:56

In my accent bow and beau sound the same... But different from boo which is how I would say boux

Presumably your ‘bow’ can be as in ‘to tie’ or ‘to take a’. So you say them both the same??

Boux=madness

caringcarer · 20/04/2023 16:16

Or pronounced booze Grin

They aren't my family. As I said she is a relative through marriage. The mother is her neice's daughter. So they are my cousin's cousin's. But not related to me.
