Big sister is Anna.

Any thoughts on these names welcome, or alternative suggestions. Currently paralysed with indecision!

Well they are all nice names.

I agree with pp that the Claira pronunciation is nicer than clah-ra, which seems more common now.

If Claira, then I'd say Anna and Clara.

Rose is pretty, but used so much as a middle name. How about Rosa which lengthens it a bit and a bit more unusual. Anna and Rosa would be lovely.

Anna is gorgeous, but a short simple name, maybe her sister needs Clara or Rose/Rosa to fit in? Rather than the slightly longer Sylvia or Emily, although they are both lovely names too.

Somanycats · 17/04/2023 16:48

Sylvia, definitely, go for it

Sittingonthefence83 · 17/04/2023 18:55

Sylvia, it's beautiful and haven't heard that name at all lately

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 17/04/2023 20:44

Sylvia or Rose - both beautiful names

Carsarelife · 17/04/2023 20:49

Clara or Sylvia. Not a fan of Rose plus there are lots

CurlyhairedAssassin · 17/04/2023 21:03

I think Sylvia must surely be due a resurgence? It's a pretty-sounding name, it just hasn't been fashionable for a long long time. Which means that it'll be uber fashionable by this time next year.

TheaBrandt · 17/04/2023 21:08

All lovely except for Emily that is both boring and drippy.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 17/04/2023 21:11

I love Emily or Emma
Not keen on Sylvia .
Prefer Rosina or Rosemary to Rose.
Claire is nice, so is Clara.
Caitlyn?

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/04/2023 21:24

Love Anna!

Also really like Rose, Clara and Emily. Probably prefer Rose. Less keen on Sylvia.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/04/2023 21:36

I adore Sylvia, closely followed by Rose. Clara is pretty but on a steep upward trajectory and I think about to explode in popularity. Emily is pretty but there are just so many of them. I taught a class with four Emilys.

ourflagmeansdeath · 18/04/2023 06:34

Not Emily, it's far too common. With the other 3, they're all lovely choices but my favourite would be Clara as it goes really nicely with Anna and it's a gorgeous name. But Sylvia and Rose are really beautiful as well.

Anna and ..

Claire Sylvia
Mary-Claire Sylvia
Jamima Scarlett

Rosemary Clara

Clara

Olios · 18/04/2023 11:04

Sylvia

CruCru · 20/04/2023 18:32

I like Sylvia - it's unusual and everyone will know how to pronounce it. I don't like Sylvie because the "-vie" doesn't sound nice in my south coast accent.

Emily is nice but I wouldn't have two children whose names both start with vowels (I'm not exactly sure why).

Clara and Rose are both fairly popular (but are nice names).

Gingerlygreen · 20/04/2023 18:41

Rose, it's pretty, classic and suits every age.

Not keen on Clara, it's gaining in popularity quite quickly and I now know 4 born in the last few years, the only other one I knew was my Nan and she pronounced it Clare-a. (She always hated her name too).

Hazelnuttella · 20/04/2023 21:35

I love Sylvie (not as keen on Sylvia).

I’ve never heard the Clare-a pronunciation of Clara but it’s been mentioned a lot on this thread which would put me off a bit.

Rose is a classic

Emily is nice but not with Anna somehow. Anna is a great name btw, excellent choice.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/04/2023 21:57

To go with Anna I'd say Rose but Emily is the nicest. Other names you may like: Nell. Tess. Lucy. Sarah. Grace. Lily. Maria. Lois.

MillenialAvocado · 20/04/2023 23:40

Unpopular opinion on MN, but I think Sylvia is horrid. It's really dated and makes me think of the word saliva.
Love Rose, that's the name I would choose if I had a DD. Love Clara too, but DH doesn't like it so can't use it. Emily is nice.

saltandpepper86 · 21/04/2023 00:13

Clara would be my fave from those

WearyElf · 21/04/2023 00:20

Favourite is Rose , then Clara, both beautiful. Sylvia is pretty but is a lot more "out there" than Anna, I think . Emily is lovely too but there seem to be a lot of them .

Sleepyandconfused · 21/04/2023 06:39

Sylvia 😍 Also love Rose and Clara. Emily is boring IMO.

Quercus3 · 21/04/2023 06:52

Clara and Rose are gorgeous! Sylvia beautiful too. Think Emily isn't in the same league.

Clare-a is the traditional English pronunciation, similar to the traditional pronunciations of Maria and Sophia (ie both with an ‘i’ rather than an ‘ee’) sound. All three have more or less been pushed out by the European / international pronunciations now.

Rose
